Hey Cityped. The 150 4c's seem to be at the low end especially on hot, high altitude days and im assuming the 120 2c is equivilent to that. Guess it depends on how fast it can swing a 16x8 prop. Bob

Bob, sounds like a BMS 380 MAX servo with 57 inch ounce s of torque . You probably run a "y" connect to the rudder servo. $21 bucks is'nt bad at all. That might be the simpler way to go. Will try. Seeya, MM

RE: Global/VQ 1.20 size Turbo Porter
Thanks for the welcome! Taking from many of the postings, I've made a new tailwheel assembly and used a 1/8" WIRE from a DuBro heavy duty strip aileron package for the rudder/tailwheel.
One of the main wheels was also drilled off center..now I'll have to get a new pair. The ones supplied are not scale size anyway. The tires on the real PC6 look like they came off a Boeing B52!
Will do the washer/CA thing to the h Stab. My stab did not set level[] The end of the fuse is a little warped. Peeled a litttle covering down from the high side at the stab mounting area and removed about 1/16". Good to go, now.
Only received 2 dowels, and they were not the correct size for the wing or the stab!
Did you guys have a TIGHT fitting wing tube? I'm not sure what to coat it with to help as I have never seen a CARDBOARD outer tube used. Sure do not want to use any thing that would swell the cardboard! Any suggestions?
Gary

Gary, I did not recieve any dowls for my anti-rotation pins, but I found that 1/4" dowels worked fine. The wing tube is a snug fit, but don't do anything to it, just carefully twist it in out a few times and it will slid in and out with out any problem. Mine was real tight at first, now it's still snug but that's what you want. I also replaced the hokey machine screws that they gave for securing the wings to fuse with socket head machine screws plus a 3/4" fender washer plus lock washers for mine. I'm having a brain f_ _ t and forgot what size they are but just take one with you to match it up. I also did not use the supplied wood screws to attach the wing struts. I bought some 4-40 threaded inserts and installed them instead. Now I know the screws won't strip out after a few times installing the struts.
MM, I still haven't had time to get back to the linkage thing. Work started at 0600 today and I just got home. hopefully sometime this week. Mike

Mike;
10-4 on the wing tube. I had planned to do those other items that you listed. Those "huge" metric inserts will be replaced with four of the 4/40 type..thanx for the quick reply!

RE: Global/VQ 1.20 size Turbo Porter
It has been beastly hot and humid here in Northern Alabama...more like August NOT June weather! My shop is airconditioned, but, due to the size of this Porter, I had to resort to doing most of the work in my garage...no a/c, of course. Anyway, it is progressing quite well. The CRRC 26 (rear carb) will fit nicely...BTW, I ran three tanks of gas thru it and it seems to run very well![8D] Used the Great Planes "Large Engine Anti Vibe Mount". Waiting for a slightly different muffler (has an angled front instead of the stock "square" shape which will require very little cutting on the cowl.) Fashioned a better tail wheel assy and used a 1/8" music wire instead of the rather flimsy wire supplied for the rudder/steering. Photos may assist future builders who opt for gassers. Thanks again to you guys for identifying the areas of opportunity in this ARF!

Gary, nice job. The engine fit looks great, just like it was made for the Porter. The weather here has been the same HOT, HOT, & Humid. I still haven't had a chance to do my changes yet, work is keeping way too busy. Hopefully I get something done this weekend. Keep up the good work. Mike

Gary. Very nice job on the engine fit!! Really like the anti-vibe setup. Yes, we are all steaming in the south east. Very unusual for this time of the year. What will August bring? Too hot to fly already!! BTW, How the #$%^ did you get those blind nuts up there? Bob

RE: Global/VQ 1.20 size Turbo Porter
Thanks for the comments, Mike and Bob! Bob, after I enlarged the hole in the fuse firewall for extra air access for the carb, I was able to use my magnetic pick-up tool to hold the blind nuts in position and get the bolts to just grab the nut.. I was then able to get an index finger on the nuts to hold them for a few "turns" to be able to then "pull" them against the firewall and proceded to lock'em in.
Getting ready to install electronics now....any suggestions????

Looks like the maiden will be Monday...Our club is hosting a pattern meet this weekend.
Did you guys use the recommeded surface throws and the 90-95mm CG? or ??? Any quirky habits on the landing, etc. ??

Gary, I used the reccomended throws and set the CG at 93mm. I did have to add 3 oz. of wt on the eng. mount to get my balance. This air plane is a puddy cat to fly. I know you are using a gasser so power shouldn't be a problem. MM & Bob are running Saito 1.50s and they seem to be at the lower power range for this bird. I've got a Saito 1.80 and it's got good power, ( I'm also at sea level). Just take it easy on your first few flights and get a feel for the climb out power. In flight it flies great and landings are a piece of cake. Keep just a tad of power on till your at the runway threshold, this bird like to float a bit. All in all it's very docile with no bad habits that I've seen. Also as this thing is so BIG it was a little difficult to judge how far away it was from me, but it doesn't take long to judge that. Good luck with you maiden on Mon., and let us know how it went. Mike

You got pics of your install Mike? On mine I put the control arm connection on the tailwheel as close inn as possible and the servo arm all the way out. Incredible steering rate and the least amount of moment back lash on the servo

RE: Global/VQ 1.20 size Turbo Porter
Unfortunately, no maiden tomorrow. Ran the motor up in the airframe for the first time and discovered a fuel leak at the tank stopper...can't get the stopper to seal tightly.[sm=angry.gif] Screw turned in as far as it will go, but the stopper will rotate and with a llittle effort, pull straight out. A trip to the LHS tomorrow and a Sullivan tank to the rescue. I thought about throwing out the supplied tank early on. Should have done so!

MM, I know this is off topic, but I "thought" I recalled you mentioning that you have a KMP F7F Tigercat. If so, could you direct me to a thread in regards to it? I'm kicking around the idea of big twin, and I'm down to the Tigercat or the KMP C-47, doing a "Spookey" version. Thanks. Mike

Guys, here's a shot of my tailwheel install, Have'nt been around for a while, sometimes I like to go boating at Bear lake and when I've over-done it, I lay-out for a siesta. MM Oops, You must have me mistaken for someone else on the KMP Tigercat, I don't have one.

Nice Boat, Mike!! Back in the early 80's, I had a 23ft Century Cortez, similar to yours. Loved it! Your yacht looks to be about 27-28ft, right?
Anyway, no maiden yet. I got her ready to go, but it's too darn hot here! Gas leak fixed with a Sullivan tank and those dinky wheels thrown out in the trash replaced with bigger DuBro 6"......see photos. My bride bought me a video cam for my birthday, got it mounted today. Maiden when it cools off a bit!

I finally got my Australian Army variant of the Porter on the weekend (camo covering). I installed a 26cc RCG clone as the first job. Unfortunately it is a rear carb job which means using the stand-offs (it is a pain getting the arm through the side doors to get to the firewall to install bolts etc - I wish there was a front hatch). With a little trimming, the cowl fitted perfectly. I though it was too good to be true - I hadn't screwed on the muffler yet. Look like I'll have to carve away the left side to fit the muffler. I'll do that last at the detailing stage.
I fitted the undercarriage (my kit was missing the 8 screws for the straps) and tested the engine. At least it fired, but I've got some way to get it running perfect.

Gary, It's a 28 foot Bayliner with a 454 cu. contra-rotating prop. It ''scoots'' right along. Sleeps six, nice kitchen, 28'' flat screen, bathroom/shower..... I could go on but this is not a boating thread. Let's see photo's of the PC maiden asap. Too hot here to fly mine safe at 4500' . MM

Those 6" tires look perfect on the TP. In fact, they look exactly like the Alaskan Bushwheel tundra tires:

Good for you. I finally got mine to kick out 3 skydivers at a time. Took a bit of tweeking to get it right. The first attempt had one of the jumpers chute get snagged on the tail wheel. Luckely it was the apex of the chute, so it didn't OPEN! That would not have been good. Anyway the Porter and the skydivers sure turn heads at the field. Only been 3 times in the last 5-6 weeks, just tooooo darn HOT. Hope all goes well in the romance dept. Mike

Hi
Here is some history on the Australian Army port.
They where orderd in the late sixties to replace the Cessna 180 that was in use with the Australian task force in Vietnam. The orders where held up by the swiss as a protest of our involment in that war. when they finaly get to the units they where well recived by the pilots and crew members. After the vietnam war they where used for Low level recon work and target marking they where retired in the late 80s
Most went onto flying at jump schools. i did see one at an army display and it was working with army jetranger the comentator was adviseing that the Porter was just about on us everyone was looking around and not able to see it.
what happend was it was flying map of the earth and it was on top of us before we knew it.

Finally got to maiden today.....flew really great, only four clicks of up elevator needed. Plenty of power out of that CRRC 26. Did a picture perfect, nearly vertical stall turn. You guys were correct...it's very easy to fly.
Sorry, no video, just some stills before the flights
