I was present at our field to witness rays first flight  (attempt) with the new AT6.
 
the aircraft left the ground after a long takeoff run but the left wing didnt!!   scary!!

ray throttled back & the plane veared into the grass, damaging only one leg.

My only comment on the airframe is that for an aircraft with a high aspect ratio wing like that, there is absolutely NO washout!!!

shame, because its a nice looking aircraft

Ihave just put a short video of the very short test flight last weekend. Only got a broken undercarriage so not to bad. I will try again this weekend. A few mods to do first.

Let us know how you do with it when you get the lateral balance done. You may want to try a Vanessa Rig, it will show you a lot, and it is very inexpensive to build. There are plans available on RCU to show how to put one together. Since you know where to add how much weight now, it probably won't be of much help just this minute. Good Luck!

Less than one ounce of lateral balance isn't going to make a whole lot of difference, it appeared to not have reached flying speed. You gotta get that thing flying on the wing before you horse it off the ground. Get a more experienced test pilot.

No no no, dont get me wronge. I do think it is a well build model and good value for the money.
But after the hastle I had with the first one and the fact that the instructions are so misleading on the C of G I really should have got something different.
Dont forget that I have paid out twice for this plane and so when I took great care to get it all right (or so I thought) it does that on me on take off.
If the undercarriage had not broke I would have tried again on that day.
I am just frustrated at this plane. In the video it was just me venting really.
I know what I did wronge and I know what I should have done.
So this weekend I will get it right and there will be a video of it flying like a warbird.

I'm sorry, but after watching your vid several times, I stand by my asessment that the plane was not ready to fly yet, and also you have to use the rudder to get a T6 off the ground sucessfully. The best of luck on your next attempt.

Wake up call for this thread

I have a question regarding the point at which you measure the 77mm back from, is it at the wheel well shoulders (B) or the leading edge of the mid wing section (A)?

To be honest I am pretty confused as this will still need a large amount of weight added.

If you go by the manual, then the answer is neither.

You meaure in 510mm from the tip of the wing and at the point the LE intersects the 510mm measurement, you go back 77mm.

If this corresponds to the picture, I'd move it forward another 15mm or so for your first flight and see how it behaves.

Ok. Ignore that picture. The CoG is 77mm back from the leading edge of the wing centre section.
I had 2 of these as you have seen from this thread, I found the instructions on the CoG very misleading.
On the first one I put the CoG where it shows on that picture. It just fell out of the sky.
77mm back from the leading edge is right.
One thing you must check before you fly it is the wing dowel. It's not glued in. It's tight but not glued in.
Be warned. Pull the dowel out and put some glue on it.
That wing dowel cost me the second Texan on it's second flight.

Thanks Ray, I was not happy with the manual either.

As for the wing dowel, I did re-glue the existing and have added an additional. (It was not very well attached)

Now will get the CG done and pour on the lead

This is how I added lead. I made a bracket and fitted to the engine mount.

I'll have to try something very similar, as you mentioned in your earlier post's it does lower the amount of lead to get the job done.

Hello Mister2 I set my cg at 77mm to 81mm having to add a lot of weight to the nose, I first I thought that it wasn't right and it would be to nose heavy. it turned out it was good and it flew very well, I sends lost her to radio lock out due to I forgot to charge the battery in the plane, I can't get one anymore so now I've got a Hanger 9 Texan Happy flying and I hope this helped you RC

Hello to all,

long time ago sice the last activity on this thread...

Got my at6 allready done for maiden but still struggling on the cg.
I did measure it out at drivecalc and it came to 126mm from the leading edge center section. This comes up to 80mm from the straight leading edge beside. (see the picture)

Question now. Did you or anybody else have the cg at this point?
