Bisson or Slimline in Sig Extra 300XS?
Bisson has 2 - 3" Exhaust Tubes - $75
Slimline has 2 - 4" Exhaust Tubes - $50 Can't decide... Price really not an issue, but having the 4" Exhaust Tubes is making me go toward getting the Slimline. Your thoughts? |
Gotta go Slimline...
Hey Mokken,
Happened to buy a 300XS that had originally had an OS 160 FX installed but the motor had been sold before I got a chance to buy it with the plane. I picked up another 160 with a Bisson muffler and found out that the "can" portion of the muffler was to large to fit in the cowl without some major cutting... Picked up a Slimline muffler for the 160 and had no problems fitting it into the original muffler cutout without additional cutting.... So in this case it wasn't the pipe length but the can size that made my choice Slimline! Bill |
Mufflers
Greetings.
My experience with Slimeline mufflers is that they're defective in design. I brought this up to the principals at the Toledo show 2 years ago and was given a lame excuse for the fact I would have to cut notches in the stingers or chop some clearance in the engine mount so the muffler mounting face would meet up with the exhaust flange of the engine. This isn't true of Bisson or J'Tec mufflers. The stinger welds of both the Bisson and Slimeline will fracture when the model" noses in", so I cut them off to about 2 inches and install neoprene or silicone tubing for extensions. Some guys use vinyl and it works just as well but requires occasional replacement. Regards, DrGO |
Bisson or Slimline in Sig Extra 300XS?
You dont say what engine size you are talking about but I have a slimline on my OS 160 and like it very much. RPM came up over 450 rpm from stock muffler. I have had a slimline on a 91fx for quite some time with no problems. No experience with bisson. When I bought my slimline prices were just the opposite. bisson was about 20 dollars cheaper
