Seagull edge 540 60 - gas engine?

I'm looking to get into small gassers. I've been looking at the Seagull edge 540 60 size. They list the weight as being close to 9 lbs. Do you think a dle 20cc would do the job on this plane or do I need to move up to a 26cc? I would like it to have more than adequate power with lots of verical. Recomendations please.

Since the DLE 20 produces over 14 lbs of thrust with the correct prop, I see no reason it wouldn't work just fine.

I flew one for 2 yrs with a Magnum 91 2 stroke, 15X6 prop and had the "more than adequate power with lots of vertical" you are looking for. Mine was just over 8 pounds, as I mounted tail servos under the canopy, not at the tail, thus saving about a pound of weight. If I still had the plane, I would put the DLE 20 in it. I think it would be a great combination.

Thanks guys. Can anyone make any other recommendations for airplanes suitable for the DLE 20cc? It looks like this motor makes almost, if not more power than some of the 26cc engines. Looks like it's going to be a winner.

I'd look more at the 90-120 size airframe for the DLE 20. They are designed for 120 size glow engines which weighs about the same as the DLE 20. If you're looking for scale aerobatics put it on something about 12 lbs.

14 lbs thrust in a 12 lb airframe? Might be scale in flight but dosent sound like much fun diving to gain speed to pull a loop

With a thrust to weight ratio greater than 1:1, why would you need to dive to gain speed to do a loop? 14 lbs of thrust means it's going to have enough pull to take a 12 lb airplane straight up!

The DLE 20 is plenty of power for this plane. I flew one for a while with another brand of Chinese 20cc engine and it had more than ample power for anything I can put a plane through. The DLE 20 is significantly more powerful than that other brand (and lighter and more reliable).

The thing you need to be careful of is the increase in wing loading. You will need to land a bit hotter than you would with a glow setup in the same plane. the weight is higher. you wil also need to move batteries toward the rear of the plane for balance.

Other fun flying options for the DLE20?

MoJo Profile - more fun than should be allowed.
Almost anything in the "0.90 size glow" Category (or smaller) = ballistic fun
Anything in the "1.20 size glow" category = good flying.
