Adding Flaps to GP Cessna 182 ARF

I just got a new GP Cessna 182 ARF and am adding flaps to the wings before assembling it. From what I have heard this plane might need them, some people say they land too hot. Anyway, here are my first pics.

The first thing I did was draw a line on the bottom side of the wing, parallel to the trailing edge, exactly 1 and 15/16" from the edge. This put my cut right in front of the rear wing spar, so the newly removed "Flap" comes off with a nice leading edge surface. I have read elsewhere that someone recommended cutting in line with the aileron. I don't recommend it, this way looks more scale and ends up easier in my opinion. I used a band saw and some scrap wood to make sure the wing was level as I cut it. Here is a pic of the flap cut out of the rear of the wing, as well as the "complete" flap with the new covering on it.

This is a picture of the blocks I added to the wing to anchor the hinges in. They are cut from a 3" piece of 1/2" X 1" balsa, made to be 1" X 1" X 1/2". I just used CA to glue them right into the trailing edge of the wing. They fit perfect. You can see one has already been installed all the way to the left.

Here are some pics of how I set up the hinges. I drilled into the bottom corner of the wing TE and flap LE at an angle, so that the flaps could sit flush up against the wing and still pivot down when deployed.

Here are some pics of the hinges all installed and the flaps moving through their range of motion.

Calling it a night, I'll be doing the servo installs and hooking up the linkages tomorrow, I'll post more pics when I have them.
