Thunder Tiger Staudacher
I flew my Staudacher .91 4 stroke yesterday and im making the transition from trainer to aerobatic...well i took off ok with little problem then came the landing...thats another story, the engine quit on approach and i gave it full up elevator thinking it would glide like a trainer, W-R-O-N-G..it sort of nose in and tore the gear off...is there a trick to landing thses style of aircraft?

On my extra I have to keep a little power on untill final touch down. Also try to keep the nose down all the way in untill final flare, if you fly it nose up for you approach your asking for a tip stall on a scale aerobate.

"G" Sorry BigstickFlier.
The same thing would apply if the engine had quit. Keep the nose pointed down untill you can get to were you need to land! |

They don't glide well @ all :) They're right, gotta keep that nose down a little to keep speed up until you're ready to flair for the landing.. ;) Hope it didn't do much damage.. My Goldberg Sukhoi had LOTS of flameouts with my ST 2500, and made for many landing gear repairs...know what you're going through :) It glided like the space shuttle..but flew nicely with power :)

My Staudacher is light (7.5 lbs, how did yours come out?) and lands well, but you need to keep a little speed, plus throttle. I approach with a click or two of throttle until over the runway then throttle down to full idle. Be careful of how much elevator you have. Keep the plane relatively level until a foot or two high, then begin adding easy elevator to flare. Many trainers will "mush" down with a lot of elevator, this plane will not. Depending upon your CG the plane is very sensitive to elevator. With a mid or rear CG it is very easy to snap. I've done it, luckily at high altitude experimenting or a foot or two off the ground as I'm landing and have left in too much elevator. With loss of engine, as with all aerobatic aircraft keep the plane a little nose down until you reach the runway then land as normal. If you can't make the runway, land level and hope for the best.
