Saito Engine for Sig Rascal 110
 

I've been drooling over the Sig Rascal 110. I have a Saito 130 Twin that I would like to put in it. Is this enough engine for it? I just want it to fly decently, I'm not looking to do 3D with it.

Hi Meesh -

Your 130Twin should work real fine! I have a 130Twin in a World 1/4 scale Cub and can do consecutive loops from level flight with no problem!

Only problem with the twin is your going to have to hack up that pretty cowl to make it fit.

The 130 twin will not be enough for this plane.My friend has one with a Saito 182 twin and it is just enough for it.The 130 is less than half the power of the 182.

A few suggestions for the 130T.

Use seperate pick up lines and clunks for each carb. and install an on board glo-driver! The 130T's have a nasty habit of dropping a cylinder when you advance the throttle for a go-around after an extended idle. Also, they love Wildcat YS20-20 fuel and OS F plugs. (I use F's in the rear and 8's in the front holes.)

It's a .90 twin in a GP 81" fabric covered Cub.

I was just thinking about going to watch, not fly. I joined the Flying Tigers in Derry. Were having a big cookout on the 23rd. of this month. If your interested, you can go with Dirt Dummy and I. Should be loads of fun.

Either way, you're welcome to come. Saturdays there are usually a bunch of guys there ( you can imagine how bad I got my chops busted last Saturday for putting the plane in the tree :o )

Can you think of any reason the 130 Twin wouldn't fly the Rascal 110? Flying weight should be the same as your Cub. One thread respondent indicated that his friend has a 180T in the Rascal and he considers it not enough engine. Any thoughts? :confused:

I really can't offer any opinions at this time.

I'm hoping to maiden the cub tomorrow after work. To be honest, I'm not expecting very good performance from it. I think I'll be lucky if it flies at all. LOL

I'll keep you updated on the maiden and also on the picnic.

It all depends on your expectations. The Rascal is basically an RC free flight that is designed for sport and leisure flying - not 3D work. My Cub will do loops, rolls, stall turns, spins, and anything else a real Cub will do. If you want waterfalls, lomshevacs, knife edge, etc., get an Extra with a Moki 180 or similar. I replaced my 182Twin in my Sig Cap231ex with an Irvine 155 because the 2 stroke had more power and was considerably lighter. Fly your Rascal with the 130T, you will love it! Don't forget the plumbing mods and the on board glo!

By the way, I just ordered a 110 Rascal and will install my Enya 155 4stroke. Probably will never get above 1/2 throttle! Can't wait to fly it from my beach chair with a cool one handy!

Takeoff is at 1/3 to 1/2 throttle. Another quy with a saito 150 can hover his for short durations. It does slow aerobatics just fine. However, you WILL have to learn to fly using the rudder. It'll drag its tail in a turn if you dont. Gotta do coordinated turns. From what I have heard, a twin of equal displacement to a single has a little less power. (extra weight of the cylinder) Just stating what I have heard, makes sense to me though. That being said, a saito 130T should do just fine. Even with the weight of a glow driver. You're gonna love it. Its my current favorite plane.
