Help Please GP Escapade 61 Elec...
 

OK...I've been out of hobby for afew years, getting bck in, decided to go electric...at the hobby shop the guy and I put together this...Escapsde 61, RimFire 1.20, Silver Brushless HV ESC, and 2 ElectriFly BP 3200 LiPos...1st Problem....we did not realize this setup requires additional battery and switch for radio/servos...so together with everything else it looks like way to much weight up front and way OVERKILL on power needed, plus where can I put the receiver/radio/servo battery...can it be stacked with the twin LiPo 3200? Advice Please? Thanks, WC

Since it sounds like you already have too much weight in the plane, why not put in a UBEC instead of an additional pack?

Try to move the battery back to adjust the C.G. even if it means having both packs in different locations.

You can put the recever anywhere you want, but remember to try to keep the antenna(s) AWAY from any internal wiring or metal.

Since you over did it with the motor, also consider putting in a smaller prop than what the motor calls for.

This will make the plane fly far longer, put a lower strain on the battery, while still giving you good performance.

Take back all that electric stuff to the HS and get you money back, buy a Saito 100 instead, or if hell bent on "motors" go HobbyKing.com

If I knew then what I know now...well can't change that....Please suggest a UBEC...I am totally uneducated about electrics...LOL....Thanks, WC

A in-expensive CastleCreations BEC, will do fine. You will need to splice it into your power battries, adding a pair of connectors, then plug it into your Rx to power your servo's.

As suggested a Castle BEC or any inexpensive UBEC ( make sure it says "U" or SWITCHING ) will do fine.

Analog BEC's tend to max out at 11.1v input voltage and even then they can only drive 2-3 servos.

This is because the BEC must shunt away the excesss current as heat... the more current, the more heat produced...

UBECs are SWITCHING MODE devices, that only grab bits of current by switching the voltage on and off very quickly, to power a reserve ( capacitor ) that produces the current to drive the electronics.

UBEC's typically can tolerate higher voltages and more current draw from your electronics.

You can find UBEC's from most online Hobby Sellers... Tower, Horizon, BPHobbies in the U.S.

Depending on how many servos you are powering, I would use the Castle Creations 20 amp pro with anything over 4 servos.

On an ESCAPADE 60?

That's SERIOUS ( and quite needless ) overkill!

A 2-4A $9.00 UBEC is far more than the plane needs.

Remember that even a 1200mAh flight pack battery is only 1.2A at max draw.

Max draw on a 1200ma is way over 1.2 Amps, just not for too long.
