Adding Scale to Covering...?

Looking for info on how to add scale panel lines, rivets, weathering, etc to covered ARFs. I'm thinking of spraying over thin tape lines and then removeing tape to make panel lines, then adding clear vinyl dots for rivets, and then spraying again...does that sound reasonable? What flat clear spray should I use? Water base? Anyideas or experience please....this is for a gas model...Thanks, B7

You may want to check out the Warbirds forums for tons of tips and details on how to do this kind of thing.

Blue77,
Here's an idea I've been kicking around that you might want to try.
I thought about getting a scale arf like the hanger nine cub or maby the great planes waco and ripping the covering off and put fabric on it.
Then you could put panel lines and rivets, maby some rib stitching too.
Sometimes you can get a hole in monocote just loading and unloading the plane from your vehicle

Here is a link to a thread I started awhile back. Hundreds of pictures and ideas on all manor of detail, on all sorts of surfaces including covering. You will see many ARFs detailed as you describe, with explanations of how the modelers did it.

Hope it helps. Post in the thread for more help. I'm sure guys will respond.

If you are going to do that..............why not just buy a kit????? You would probably build it better than the arf and you would not have the hassle of taking off the factory covering just to put more covering back on. I used automotive striping tape for panels lines on a bird I built a long time ago and swore I'd never go to that much detail again. At 100' you can't see them anyway and they didn't look very good in a pile either.
