U-CAN-DO .46 tips?
i just bought the u-can-do .46. it is a great plane but there are some problems with there hardware. i have done alot of reading and i mean alot on the u-can-do. and it seems that if you use standard servos such as the futaba 3003 or 3004 you can get ALOT of flutter if you have any slop. but you can stop that if you up grade the hardware. i did not use their push pull rods. i upgraded them to 4-40s. then i put carbon fiber over the 4-40 rods. then instead of normal clamps i put ball links. dont use their control arms they flex way to much and cause a ton of slop. use something else. when you use and install your CA hinges. make sure that there is no gap in between the surfaces and the wings or stab. make sure the CG is in the right.

I used the stock stuff , with 3d control arms , make sure the pushrod is on the top hole on your contol surface. I had mine in the middle hole and had major fluttering, I moved the pushrod up to the top hole and it stopped the fluttering, with the 3d control arms I still have plenty of throw.

The 4/40 hardware is plenty strong by itself, the carbon fiber rods add extra weight you don't want on this plane particularly at the rear. I did use the stock hardware but I don't recommended it
You want to get as much leverage advantage over the control surface as possible with the control horns. This means using a hole as far out from the surface as possible . For 3D throws this usually means you need to use extra long servo arms. I used the stock control horns and the very last hole at the tip. If the first hole is used you are very likely to experience flutter What engine are you planning to use? I would reinforce the wing hold down mount in the fuse .It looks like a design destined for trouble and someone has recently experienced a failure |

well i did not use the stock control horns because they were bending like no other and causeing flutter. i used some other type.(sorry i cant remember what they were called.) they were screws that came out and then the clamps held these nuts and they screwed on.
i plan on using a .46FX with a black max tune pipe. i know it powers it great. the only down part is that the engine is light and it is hard to the CG right. but i suggest making those control arms as strong as possible because if it flutter you could lose your plane. it is safe to spend the few extr bucks and save your-self a plane. reply |

Good job on the set up, upgrading the hardware is rarely a bad idea.
To address the CG issue. I joined the elevator halves and removed one of the servos. The throttle servo tray can be used for a rudder servo set up for pull pull. |
