Started putting my ModelTech/Global P-51D Mustang together yesterday. This is a very high quality ARF! The wings are built up (not foam) and are fully sheeted! Not to mention they come with the retracts in the box! The covering is very good (ultracoat) and everything looks very sharp! The cowl is fiberglass and is used only on the bottom of the plane, the top half is actually built into the fuselage! Color match isn't bad either. This is a very scale like plane, I am really impressed with the looks. Anyone else had a chance to get this plane yet?

Modeltech P51
A flying buddy got one a few weeks ago and has been putting the finishing touches on it over the last few days...He is concerned with the lack of dihedral...says it only has maybe a couple of inches total. I looked at the foto and it doesn't look like there is much in the foto either. He does like the looks and the quality...a great platform from which to really do something fun with the finish. His warbird ARF's always end up lookin GOOD. He should finish it early next week and be ready to pop the cherry. I'll let ya know how it flies. By the way...I took advantage of Hobby People's $165.00 deal until the end of the month and ordered one too! There can never be too many P51's at the field!

How does it fly? What is everyone using for engines?? I have one coming. Just don't know what to put in it for an engine. I want it to be scale. Thanks

Just finished putting mine together. I'm not too crazy about the lack of wing dihedral either because this makes the plane less scale and unstable at low speed.
I had some problems with fit and finish:

The rear of the wing doesn't line up with the belly on the fuselage
The cowl doesn't blend in smoothly with the fuselage, even after careful trimming and sanding.
The axles on the retracts were bent at the wrong spot, so the wheels won't go into the wheel wells.
The bomb decals are just black circles. There are no fuses or sparks. I had to paint the fuses myself.
The supplied spinner is not a parabolic mustang spinner. I replaced it with a Tru Turn P-51 spinner.
This plane flies great and sounds great with a Saito 72 four stroke swinging a 13x6 prop. However, it tends to pitch up above half throttle with the gears up. I had to use some down trim on the elevator to keep it flying level. Contrary to what the ads say, this plane likes to land hot. On my maiden flight, I slowed it down to my usual landing speed, and it tip stalled. My Kyosho ME-109 is much easier to land. Nevertheless, it is still a great looking plane. Very nice pictures Richard L. Looks much nicer than my World Models P-51! Did the pilot figure come with it? If not, where did you get it? Thanks.

The pilot figure did not come with the ARF. I bought the pilot figure separately. It is the 1/7 scale unpainted WWII U.S. pilot made by Hangar 9. You can get him from your local hobby shops or from HorizonHobby.com
