Phoenix Extra 300s .46 size GP/EP

I just purchased the new Phoenix Extra 300s .46 size GP/EP arf. Most of the Phoenix arfs have been completely redesigned lately and I must say that I am very impressed with the newer versions of these models. The new extra has a much more scale outline than the older version with airfoiled tail feathers and the quality looks good. On this build I will be going for all out lightness so I will be using a 460mah 7.4v lipo with a mini reg and I will also be going with mini servos. I have 3 engines to choose from .52 surpass @ 15.5oz .70 surpass @ 21oz or a ys .63fzs @ 18oz but I am leaning towards the YS as it has the most power per oz but it would be interesting to see what the little .52 surpass could do with an all up weight of about 4 1/2 lbs. If anyone else is building the new extra I would like to see pics of the build.

I just noticed that tower has lowered the price to $135 on this plane. If anyone is looking for an extra in this size range I would recomend this one, it is very nicely made. As you can see in my pics this is a compleley different plane than the one pictured on the box, it is a brand new design.

Go with the YS and DONOT use that small of an RX battery especially if using a regulator. Use a 1000 to 1300. The reg its self burns up battery capacity. I had an airplane close to this size and ran an 800 mah nicad and got 2 flights ending in a free flight landing. Quite lucky, it just glided into the tall grass and broke out the landing gear mount.

Have you had a chance to get it in the air yet? How does it fly? I ask because I have one waiting to be assembled, but can't find much in the way of first hand accounts of this new version.

Thanks

I just bought this airplane and have to say it is great. I think I paid $129. Great plane for the price. Plan on putting an OS AX 55. Although I may entertain the thought of a four stroke. I don't have any experience with 4 strokes but am interested in getting into them. Would a 70 size 4 stroke be a good size for this plane? Also. The instructions are a little( OK a lot) shy when it comes to installing the wing. They say install the wing as shown in the picture. Well there is covering over the wing hole in the fuse. I would assume that you cut the covering out about a quarter in inside the hole and iron the covering into the hole for the wing. I'm fairly good at building and it seems logical but I just want to check before I go slicing. Have read some of the other threads and there seems to be some concerns about the muffler touching the fuse and cutting out the cowling. Is this a concern for the OS AX 55? Also some talk about the pitts style muffler. Is that for the four stroke? Any other tips will be great.

Pikeman, any updates on the Extra with the AX 55 by chance? I was considering this plane & engine combo as well so was curious if you had any input to share ??

thanks!
