something extra wing question

I was finishing up my SE ARF last night and when I attached the right wing at final assembly (after securing aluminum rod in place), I noticed a 1/16 gap between the wing TE and the fuse.

I can't seem to figure out why this happened, everything seems to line up and i don't have anything hindering the joints.

Also, I have read that people complain about the wings rubbing into the fuse. I have 1/16 sheets of foam rubber and was considering cuting the contour of the mating surface of the wing and glueing it to the wing for protection. Has anyone done this? Any recommendation on doing so? I don't think spacing the wings out 1/16 in will do any harm......plus it seems to fix my previous issue. :-)

Hi mkent78.
I don't have the ARF version of the SE but I built the kit last year. I don't think the 1/16 gap should be a problem, but I do like your idea of using some foam rubber as a gap filler/cushion. I've done this on some of my other planes where the wing sets into the wing saddle. If you want to do some wood work, you could also just get some 1/16 balsa sheeting and glue it onto the wing root where the gap is most prevalent. Then slowly sand it back down until you get a nice fit. Once that's done, you'd need to re-cover that end section. Might be more work than you'd want to do though. I have noticed some minor scuffs on the fuse of my SE where the wings set against it, but the only time they're visible is when the wings are off, so it doesn't bother me much.

I have two Sig SEs and both have the gap and it does not affect the flying at all.

thanks fossil....that makes me feel much better....I think i am still going to use the foam for both cosmetic and padding reasons.
