RE: Bendix Special by EcomRC
Hi Pope,
The width of the firewall is 77mm. The length firewall to backplate is 115mm. I had to recess the carb into the firewall to obtain the proper distance so be sure to reinforce the firewall. I used to worry about ca hinges with gasers but this doesn't seem to be an issue. The hinges on the Bendix are solid and are holding up fine. I also used micro metal gear servos to save weight with this install. Please let us know if the engine will work for you. Carl |
RE: Bendix Special by EcomRC
Thanks Carl I think It might be a bi tight , but maybe with a bit of creative butchering it might fit . Will have to go have another measure . From memory it was about 80mm. Maybe on a angle it could work, anyway I have a few glow engines around that would do the job . Just had another measure and its pretty tight . Does the fuz have triangle stock on the firewall and if so is your measurement including the triangle stock or not ? Gheers the pope

RE: Bendix Special by EcomRC
My measurements did not include the triangle stock.

O.K. thanks Carl. I might have to get my mitts on one in person and see if it can be made to work . Cheers the pope

Hey guys,
thanks for all the input, expecially to starmer. One thing I changed, due to the fact that I am flying off grass, was the UC. I used 55mm wheels and drilled a surplus hole in the UC. The pants are now 10mm higher um and held by one M3 metal screw and a M2 Plastic one against turning. Should the wheel pants catch somewhere the plastic screws will give way and I hope to minimize damage. Rev |
RE: Bendix Special by EcomRC
Rev,
Nice Mod. I was considering doing the same but I never got around to it. I did damage the UC spats a little when I hit a pothole in the runway. I guess I could have avoided it by doing what you did. Nice job. Dowmer aka. Starmer |

Thanks, but it still has to prove itself.
Pilotwise I was first looking at the slimline pilot from my stearman but he is just a tick too tall. I then checked Petes Pilots and had to get myself another cedric. He is perfect :) Rev |

Nice, I gotta get one

Maidened today. -10°C but crystal clear. Used half the throws from the manual (40mm+/- seems a LOT!) and the CG at 82mm. Flew brilliantly from the first second. Thought I would definitely not do more than three flights in the cold, ended up with 56 minutes flying time and about 30+ touch and go's :D
Can only recommend this little plane. |
RE: Bendix Special by EcomRC
It looks like a natural on the skis! Sweet.
Did the muffler set up do ok? |
RE: Bendix Special by EcomRC
Reverend,
Love the skis.!! I agree with you. This plane is one of my best pleasurable fliers. It's my "go-to" plane when I just want to relax and have fun. I noticed you mod'd the tail gear. Where is it from? I used Sullivan tail geat for mine. Jason |
RE: Bendix Special by EcomRC
Muffler Setup working very well and I am glad I only have minimum cutouts in the cowl.
I really dont like those tail gear setups where the gear is directly glued to the rudder and the servo feels every "hit" directly. I used this: [link=http://shop.lindinger.at/product_info.php?products_id=64909]click me softly[/link] Rev |
RE: Bendix Special by EcomRC
Thanks Rev,
I looks just like the Dubro that I've used in the past. It's a good tailwheel. J |
RE: Bendix Special by EcomRC
Since Bendix Specials are out of stock World Wide and have been for some time I think I hit pay dirt today http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../thumbs_up.gif
I went to the Perry GA rc swap meet. There was a RC Store that had brought a bunch of planes to sell. They had a Bendix Special they had partially built (just enough to hang it in their store). They brought it to the show and I got it for $100. All parts are accounted for except the push rods. They didn't do a bad job with the partial build. I have a TT Pro .46 ready to install in it. I just need to get some servos and push rods. Well I tried to post a pic of it but RCUis not cooperating http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f...used_smile.gif |
RE: Bendix Special by EcomRC
Did a quick inventory. I have the eleator, rudder, and throttle servos. I have in my stash all the pushrods I need. At this point I only need to purchase Aileron servos and I think I'm good to go. Going back to the swap meet tomorrow for some low priced servos.

RE: Bendix Special by EcomRC
Finally got her going and ready to maiden within the next few days.
Tried to post a picture once again and no such luck http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/js/f.../sad_smile.gif |
Dear all,
I owned a Bendix for some time, and I had a lot of fun with this plane. After a crash I dumped the parts without thinking  Now I decided to build the Bendix in double size, powered by a Zenoah ZG80. Please can anyone help me with the airfoil used (data or pdf)? I would also be interested in buying a wrecked or crashed plane... Best regards from Vienna, Josef |
Josef, amen dude. I love my Bendix and the only thing better would be a 1/4 scale size. I would think any semi-symmetrical airfoil would be fine. If you do a build thread I will follow.
Cheers |
Hi,
is there any Bendix special out there? I still want to buy one in any condition, airworthy or not... Best regards, Josef |
