removing Bowes or Warps in control surfaces?
 

I was closely looking at my Great Planes Cap 580's ailerons and after sighting down them length wise noticed one has abow in it.

I have never tried no had to remove one before on another model, so am unfamiliar with the correction method.

What do you guys do to correct this issue when itarrises?

Try: place it on a flat surface, bow up, heat with heat gun, press flat while letting it cool. Depending upon severity of warp/bow, that's all it takes.

while you or a friend holds the surface.. carefully heat the covering on the convex side... this can pull the bow out.....

Before going too far, try sighting down through the hinges to make sure they are all in a line?

How bad is the bowing?

There are a number of things that can be done, even if you do not want or cannot remove the surface.

Some of the more advanced; include lightly puncturing the covering with a pin and dripping water in.

Then clamp the surface between two straight metal bars and give it a few days ( or weeks ) to dry.

It's actually very minimal. It's just a slight wave.

I imagine I could try the heating method. I haven't ever used the covering to remove warps before, but have read it can be done.

I'm just a little nervous as i'm not familar with that method.

I'll try and post some pics of what of the aileron. I'm gonna check the entire plane now for any more.

For warps like in an in aileron I prefer to use a iron rather than a heat gun, with the warped section held against a flat surface with the convex side facing up and the hot iron applied to it at approx. 350F with the piece held firmly in place until it has completely cooled.
