does any one fly a Magic and if so what engine, throws, etc. Any info would be greatly appreciated thanks

I might get mine finished this weekend and possibly fly it on Sunday. So far I like it, but I am a fan of Model Tech anyway.

I will set the throws at the recommendations and then set the radio to about 75% high rate and 45% low rate. I am also going to make a tad nose heavy from the instructions, just in case.

I finished it this morning. It went together pretty easy except for the engine mounts. The holes in the mounts did not match the installed blind nuts and it was too close to drill new holes. I augered them out and it worked out pretty good.

I set the controls per the instructions and for my first flight set the high rate at 65% and the low rate at 30% on elevators and 100% high, 70% low on alierons. I CG'd it per the plans. Power is a Thunder Tiger Pro .46. At low rate it was very slow to turn and flew like a trainer. Needed much more elevator, especially for landing. At low speed it would not pitch enough to flare.

Second flight I raised the low rate elevator to 55% and the high to 80%, much better but still not good enough. The airplane would not snap or spin, it would just sprial instead. Low rate to 65% and high to 100% did the trick.

It is a very forgiving plane even with the hugh control surfaces, and the thick wing makes a real musher on landing.

6 flights total and each one better than the last.

I have enjoyed mine. Used an Irvine 53,plenty of power,and reliable.I did use the push/pull wires supplied, however pretty much scrapped the rest of the supplied hardware. I fly mine on high rates with a lot of Neg. expo. Set throws at recomended. The Magic handles just OK on the ground in light wind conditions(it has a tail skid), However in windy conditions becomes pretty tough to taxi.

You need a high tourque elevator servo. A Hitec 605 can be had for 30 bucks or so. Most of the Magics I've seen flew well on a standard elevator servo, but if you have some speed up, and you need to pull up fast, a standard servo won't cut it.

An absolute BLAST to fly!!! I am running an OS .46FX with a Macs muffler and spinning a 12.25 X 3.75 APC prop. Unlimited vertical. Prop hangs. Harrier landings. From what I have read, the Magic also flys very well on an OS .32SX (especially with a mousse can muffler) and is lighter with this engine. Have fun!!!
