Space Walker "ARF" what engine??
I have a Great Planes Space Walker "ARF" and I am considering using a Saito 120. Has anyone used this combination or have any recommendations.

gp spacewalker
Hi I am flying a Great Planes spacewalker with a O.S. 120 twin it flys good but way to much power I am taking it out to put in a saito 80.

i flew mine with an OS-91 and a 14 x 6 prop; this combo flew the plane well.

The Saito 120 should be perfect. You will only need half throttle most of the time. Mine has a YS 91AC which should be close in power. Flies great. I fly at 1/3 to 1/2 most of the time but when I open it up it is fully aerobatic and will eben do ugle knife edges. A fabulous plane.

Flew mine with a 91 Surpass, 14 x 6 prop and it was fine and dandy.

Saito 120
The 91 seemed underpowered for me  I put a Saito 120 in it and what a difference. I think you will really enjoy it. Pete

I fly mine with an OS 70. I have flown it over a year & wouldn`t want for more engine. The light wt of the 70 makes it preform quite well. Take off in about 70 ft w/good climb out on a 13 X 6.

If I understand them correctly they come out tail heavy so a 120 should give you the weight needed for up front.

Space Walker "ARF" what engine??
yes they will come out tail heavy with small motor i ran a birck 1800 6 volt jr battery with out that i would have needed nose weight.....

OS 70
Yes it did come out very tail heavy. I moved all the servos foward to balance it, & added no wt. A pain in the ** but well worth the effort. It is the most relaxing plane I have flown, will poke around or jump when kicked.

Excellent information folks. I will go with the saito 120 to balance out the tail heavy condition and satisfy my need for speed.
Thanks for the info. |

Gemini,
I am putting a 120 gemini in my spacewalker. You said it is over powered? what if i prop it down a bit, and set my radio so that it will be about 75%power? i want the sound and look of the twin, but i don't want to rip the wings off of it. please let me know. |
Space Walker "ARF" what engine??
I have a GP Spacewalker with a Saito 100 and although the engine is very strong the plane is very under powered. I realize this is no pattern plane but I would like to be able to do a 1/2 roll in the vertical position, but with this engine it is falling out of the sky before 1/2 roll is completed. If I really liked the plane ( and I don't ) I would put a 120 or maybe even a 150 in it.
A 120 twin, too much power !! I don't believe it. |
Spacewalker ARF
Flew mine with a 91 OS 4 stroke and a 14 x 6 prop - handled it well - just watch out for the landing gear - the GP ARF's don't take kindly to much more than a gentle touchdown.

I fixed the landing gear problems before they begun by putting a 120 size fiberglass gear I had laying around in the fuse right in front of the wing and I am ever glad I did, there is no way the wire gear could stand up and now it will park on my bench and in my van just fine. Do yourself a favor and "turf" the wire gear.
I still don't like the way the SW flies, anything over 5 mph breeze ...... forget it. |

I have the SEagull Skywalker .
The plane is kind of nose heavy . I am presently using an OS46 . On invert flyingthe decent is quite a lot . I have to hold the up elvevator quite a lot . This is a heavy kit . I don't think moving the CG back woudl make a difference . The only thing woudl be adding some weight to the tail . Woudl appreciate ur comments . |

I agree they are a real problem . A couple of hard landings and u ar back at the work bench fixing it . Where did u pick ur fibre glass ones from . Coudl u send me the web page or e-mail id ofthe LHS . We fly in the desert ( Dubai ) so it creates a lot of problems , patches of soft & hard ground . Regards. Arjun |

Believe it or not the gear I had came in an old Ace 4-120 kit about 10 years ago. I put a Q42 in the plane so had to jack her up a bit for prop clearance. Aeroglass I believe makes FG gear that would fit. It is well worth the effort because the SW loves to float and it is very hard to make "soft" landings all the time.

I have a ST G90 in mine and it flys great!! Only problem is the cowl has cracked.

Space Walker "ARF" what engine??
I have a ys91 fz in mine. It isn't a rocket, but the plane isn't made for speed or aerobatics. It is a Sunday flier but sounds great doing a loop with a 91ysfz and a flex pipe for exhaust.
I had a wing incidence problem with my gp space walker. It wanted to fly like it was tail heavy but the cg was correct. They [GP] said the incidence should be +3 Deg. sorry but I remade my wing saddle and set it at 0 Deg to the tail and now it flies like a kite! If it wants to balloon bad in flight or you have to retrim at different speeds alot, you might want to consider changing the incidents back to 0. It only took an evening and made a world of difference without over trimming and adding a bunch of un-wanted weight to the nose. mskyhawk |

Oh yeah, Landing gear. I soldered stiff springs on mine like scale cub gear. Works fantastic, and it is easy to do!

I have had one for 3 years with an OS 91 4 cycle. Perfect combo,
but I still had to add weight to the front. A 120 would kick ass!!! |

What about 2 cylinder?
What do you guys think about a Saito 100 2 cylinder on the SW??
