A buddy and I had two GP Gee Bee R2s up today.. Both 2 flights, both good landings. We even had them both in the air at the same time one flight. He changed his a bit to resemble the Gee Bee Z ..

He has a fuji 24 cc, and mine has a McCulloch 25cc.they fly exactly the same speed..

We had the same two planes up today, I put my new little HD camera on the wing, OH MY ! It totally screwed up the airflow, I fought it for 7 minutes before it finally snapped into the corn ! I fought it all the way down and kept getting it back to level.Got it all on video though, this camera is making me crash things !! hahhahah Anyhow the plane had minor damage, and is on the mend, Here is a link to the video.

I just scored a NIB one! Worth flying? Id love to put a gas motor on it. Maybe evolution?

My buddy just flew his last night...

They will fly with a 25 cc gas engine. I think I installed the radio under the stab to balance with no lead.
Landing gear blocks are best beefed up from inside the wing. I made access panels that screw off and on.
Wheel pants hang down to low and must be trimmed for grass runways.
You also want slippery wheels that don't grab inside the wheel pant and act like a brake on harder landings.

Mine and his planes both...take off and fly great, they will keep you honest and humble landing.. THEY HATE CROSS WIND LANDINGS maybe worse than WW1 planes.

I was wondering about mods too. Thanks. I just really want to stay away from nitro motors.

Nice find. I say if you are not truely ready to fly it please just build it then fly it after you get practice with a fast landing plane. I retired mine after many many many flights.

Im qualified to fly it, just wanted to make sure I get all the necessary mods done before flying it.

I did not fly mine with gas but I did fly mine with a OS120 FS 4 stroke and I added a 1 oz spinner nut I believe and it flew great for me. Everything was factory on mine absolutely no upgrades for my Gee Bee. I had too many flights to count. I did fly off of asphalt so that may have been the reason for me not having to beef up the landing gear. I know you are not wanting to fly nitro but you can take my feedback on the balance of mine to help with the input Foodstick provided above.

Assembling the fuse stuff. I have a dle20, would a 16x6 be a good prop choice? Or get a 17x6?

also the tires, get something other than the stock ones? I've seen mention of 4-1/2" , Dubro? Dave brown?

I found mine to land better if using a 6" pitch prop. I'd start with the 17x6 and go from there.

The most important issue with the tires is to make sure they can't come into contact with the wheel pants. If they do you will nose it over and damage the plane.

Thanks. The stock tires have a ton of clearance, so sounds like they will be ok then.

I found the wheel pants to be very flexible as mounted and can move enough to come into contact with the wheels. I glued small balsa spacers to the inside of the pants positioned to come into close proximity to the axle and the wire just as it bends to enter the wheel.

These prevent the pant from contacting the wheel.

Also recommend you strictly adhere to the balance and throw guidelines in the assembly manual and that you study some Youtube videos to learn the character of the model before you test fly.
