GP Christen Eagle II
1 Attachment(s)
Check out the new Bipe from GP... http://greatplanes.com/airplanes/gpma1217.html
It looks alot like the 1/3 Pitts. And I'm a sucker for a bipe anyway. What do you fellas think about it? |
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
Any price on on it yet? I need to get one,I love the Eagle, always did. The'll sell a bunch of them I bet!!
|
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
I agree, it looks like the pits with a modified cowl and a better colour scheme.
|
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
I agree it does look like the pitts, but as with everyone else I had to have one.
I orderd mine from the local hobby shop and he gave me a price of 399.00. I saw a price on it of 429.00 at tower I think. I am glad that it is like the pitts because all the bugs should be worked out allready. I also have the pitts. Fred |
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
Derf-45 - I ordered one too. I think I'll pull all of the guts out of my pitts and put'em in the Eagle. I also think its the same plane but with a different cowl and wheel pants. It has gear cuffs too...

RE: GP Christen Eagle II
I will leave my pitts alone, I just love bipes so I figured why not.
I will be using a brison 3.2 or a DA 50 not sure yet. Good luck with yours if you get it first post some pics Fred |
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
I figured the Pitts and Eagle were both the same too but I checked the specs. The length and span are different.
|
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
The difference in the length could be the cowl or rudder. I'm sure its the same fuselage. The top wing is the same span but the lower is slightly different. All in all - it's the same but only different.

RE: GP Christen Eagle II
According to Mike Stokes, Produce Guru at Hobbico, the cowl, fuselage and tail surfaces on the Eagle are different from the Pitts parts. The wings are the same. Of course the coloring is very different, too.
You have to recall also that the dimensions given on the Great Planes Web site for the Pitts do not match the actual plane's dimensions. I plan on doing the Eagle for a product review in R/C REPORT, using a new ZDZ-50NG, when they arrive. Stay Tuned.... |
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
Anyone know when they will be available?
|
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
Mine is supposed to be in Sept. 22, supposedly at the latest. This was based on the proposed shipment date from the supplier. Ordered through local hobby shop which has very good prices, MAC Hobbies, (205) 247-5555, ask for Tim (owner); . Anyone interested might call them for a comparison to Chief Aircraft which has it listed for $399 shipped.
Using MOKI 2.1 with Bisson muff. |
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
I am relatively new to the hobby and interested in this airplane. I am currently cutting my teeth on a H-9 Super Cub. I would like a bipe someday down the road. I am curious how long it takes to set up and tear one of these down at the field. I do not have a whole lot of room to transport one so it would have to be dissasembled everytime I flew. I am not sure how the flying wires are attached or if they are just for show. Curious to hear from those in the know.
Dave |
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
If it goes as easy as my pitts it takes about 10min to setup and the flying wires are for show.
I leave the interplane struts bolted on the bottom wing. Hope this helps Fred |
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
I have a saito270 waiten for this plane!! I was going to put it in the Byron one I have but it needs to be finished and the foam is a pain in my low basement. Every time I move around I wack it into something!![>:]
Maybe I'll just sell it!!!! Later Frank |
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
fun time..how about a G-62 in that eagle?
|
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
The plane is selling for $429.00 at Towerhobbies..was going to get one but I have decided on the DP Ultimate instead.
|
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
MAC Hobbies has the Eagle for $394.99 Delivered. (205) 247-5555.

RE: GP Christen Eagle II
barondriver,
Do you know about the charlotte aeromodelers? We have a fly in on the 20th and an informal camp out the night before. come check it out www.charlotteaeromodelers.com |
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
I got mine on order from my LHS. I'll be putting a Saito270 twin and It'll be smokin too..
Should look awesome!!! Frank |
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
For anyone interested. The Eagle should have a shorter fuselage than the Pitts for scale. Also a shorter distance from the flight deck to the start of the rudder. The wing chord should be narrower as well.
I have the GP Pitts powered with a Brisson 3.2. 16 1/2 pounds, dry. Weight includes modifications to correct design/manufacturing defects. AWESOME power to weight ratio. From personal experience in other planes, I would consider holding off the Eagle purchase until the second production run. |
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
Just picking on you for fun Silversurfer, but if everyone took your advice, would there be a second run?;)
|
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
My LHS said it won't be until the end of OCT.[:@] The flying season will be over by the time I get it done...Oh well it'll be a good winter project...

RE: GP Christen Eagle II
Reaper, you have an extremely valid point.
For Barondriver, I would STRONGLY suggest that you wait until you have a few planes worth of experience before you take on the G/P Pitts or Eagle. Especially low/mid wing aerobat experience. I'm not trying to talk you out of a large bipe, but I would not want you to take such an expensive risk prematurely. |
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
Wouldn't it be amazing though, if when they released this project, everything was perfect? Everything was exactly where it was supposed to be? No shipping damage? No recalls, no mismatched paint on the cowl and wheelpants? All hardware was perfect, no need to run to the hobby shop for missing parts or replacements for cheaply made junk?
I know what you mean by the second run Silver. But, just for once, wouldn't it be nice if they didn't release what amounts to a beta test release but a truly ready to perform masterpiece? I don't mean to pick on GP because almost all companies in all endeavors release items that shouldn't be yet. |
RE: GP Christen Eagle II
You got that right reaper. I got a second run GP Pitts after they strengthened the top wing center section and there were still one and one half pages of changes to the instructions and the plane didn't match the pictures on the box. Yes the Eagle is a modified Pitts, so the models should look similar. You could almost say the Eagle is a continuation of the Pitts run, so hopefully the bugs are gone.
