Vector flight 60 size Extra

Just got my 60 size Extra from Vector flight. It has the 66" wing. My flying buddy got the 58" but it hasn't been delivered yet. Opened the box and a quick look revealed that It looks very, very nice. Anyone have any experience with these ARF'S? Would appreciate any comments or mods before I start putin pieces together. I will probably put my Saito 100 up front. Thanks in advance.

RE: Vector flight 60 size Extra

I received my VF 66 Extra 300S a few weeks ago. I also am putting in a Saito FA-100. I think the Saito 100 should be enough powder to hang it. I thought of the YS 110, but too hard to get and pricy. Plus, the pressured tank could be and issue. I am almost finished with building it.

1. ) I would recommend using Robart Pin-Stlye Hinges instead of the CA hinges. I used 4 hinges in each aileron, 3 hinges in each elevator, and 3 in the rudder. I also sealed the topside of the hinge gap with hinge tape to avoid any potential flutter. I wrote a separate post on the hinge gap issue today. I had a 1/16" gap.

2.) To install the belly pan use four 4-40 brass inserts instead of the 4 tiny wood screws that are provided.

3.) I replaced the wheel axle with a Dubro 5/32" axle.

4.) Use plastic oversided washers for the two 1/4 -20 wing bolts, so it doesn't dent the wing when screwing them in.

5.) I am thinking of using 4-40 aileron rods instead.

6.) I fuel proofed the fuel compartment with fuel proof paint incase of a fuel tank leak.

7.) I am probably going to go with DuBro control horns.

8.) I beefed up the tail and stabilizer with 90 deg balsa stock in the inside corners. I plan on doing some high stress snap rolls.

Let me know how it goes!

Jcattera sounds like your Extra is about ready to fly. I just started building my VF 66 Extra 300S. How did you mount the fuel tank in yours? I have a Super Tigre G-90 that will be going in it.

skyking424,

I decided to mount a Sullivan 14 oz tank instead of the 12 oz tank they provided. I'm getting just over 15 minutes of flying time with my Saito 100. I also leveled the tank using spare spuce stock at the bottom of the tank for support. I also used cushion foam around the rest of it. In the front of the tank, I let the brass tubes hold it up for support. The tubes go through a small hole in the firewall.

Hope this helps.
