Hobbico Hobbistar Tail Dragger conversion?
Anyone convert the Hobbistar to a tail dragger? I would like to know how you set up the tail? How did you connect the wheel to the rudder for control? What wheel assemble did you use (brand)?
thanks |

I extended the rudder with a piece off a wrecked Hobbistar. I split the elevator and used a "y" pushrod. A Sullivan tailwheed assembly was easily attached to the bottom of the fuselage with the spring actuated from the bottom of the rudder. It works real well. I moved the main gear up to around the leading edge of the wing and used a Dubro plastic landing gear. It's ground handling is steady as a rock, and a lot of fun for shooting touch and go's.

I did that to my Hobbistar one year and the following recovered the whole plane and made all of the surfaces larger.
As a tail dragger, the plane handled FAR better on the ground and I swear, better in the air. I didn't attach the tail wheel to the rudder directly. Used a rod from the servo. If you're interested in more information, I'll try to dig up an article that I wrote for my club's newsletter. |

Absolutely, if you have the article, it would be greatly appreciated. I'm leaning to-wards controlling the tail wheel via the rudder servo and not directly to the rudder, just seam s easier.
Thanks for the responses everyone. Kevin |

Here's the link to the club's newsletter that contains the article. Since I am the editor, I got the privilege of making it front page.
Good luck. http://bluemaxrc.com/Newsletters/2001aprilnews.pdf |
