Dave Patrick Extra help

Hi all,
will this model really fly with a YS140?
This is my first step into larger aircraft and am a little worried that I may have made the wrong choice, maybe I should have gone for the Kangke Cap, or JR or Top Model CZ.
hope someone can help?
Thanks

RE: Dave Patrick Extra help

The 140 you have is it the DZ or the L model? I've seen both engines fly his Extra and his Edge and I have a 140DZ in my Edge and it flies it just fine, unlimted vertical, want to go vertical on takeoff?, it will do it.

Go pull-pull on the rudder and Ailerons. Put the tank on the CG and the battery right behind the firewall and you should not have to add any weight.

Hope I could help..

Id have to see a 1.40 pull a DP extra unlimited vertical to believe it, it will fly well, but I doubt unlimited.

Good luck

What model YS are you talking about John? The L or the DZ? The DZ will pull my Edge unlimted vertical without even thinking about it. The edge with this motor, and pull-pull on rudder and ailerons weighs in at little under 13lbs, I can't imagine the Extra with that same setup weighing much more. I'm not sure what the spec of the 140L model are though...

Really? Id just have to see it. Make a vid since you can do vids, hover then pull out. Id like to see it do it. My DP extra with a Moki 1.8 had a hard time doing unlimited, that is why I am really doubting a 1.4 can do it.

Thanks

hi there thanks for the help. I am thinking about the 140Dingo. I will use pup-pull on rudder and elevator also, lightweight carbon u/c and tailwheel from troy built as well as a small bb mini servo on the throttle.
I spoke with Dave Patrick and he said that the dingo will be great. I have to trust him he's the man that designed the model
all the best

Go with the dingo wdave, these gasser guys forgot how good some glow engines really are. ;)

And you got it John, I'll pull out the camera this weekend and get one up soon..

Btw John where are all these videos of your Edge with the BME 50 at?

Not my edge, a buddies, nobody said they wanted to see them so I didnt make the vid. But I still can. Ill try to get it up tonight.

No, us gasser guys know exactly how the glow engines are, that is why we went gas[:'(]

Thanks:)

I just ordered one. I plan on using the OS 1.60. I made the choice to compromise vertical for decreased weight. It suits my flying style. I haven't decided on pull-pull for the elevator. It sure adds complexity for a 2 oz savings. The carbon gear is a 6 oz savings so I may go for it. I've heard of couple people bringing them in at 12.5 pounds. I'm not counting on that weight, but I'm hoping for close to 13. It should be excellent at that weight.

I don't really care about hoverbatics, but long verticals during a sequence is important. I'll have to enter end maneuvers with more speed and conserve momentum as much as possible. I'll be flying Sportsman next season and the square and diamond loops really suck the power. Swapping-out for more Hp is always an option.

BTW, from what I've read on RCU, the YS is quite a moose. I believe it's similar to the Moki 180 with 8 oz less weight. Of course, that's with 20/20 fuel. I'll be running $13/gallon 15% Cool Power in my OS.

I hear that...running my 140DZ is exspensive, CP 30% heli, $18 a gallon at local shop, so it's not so bad. I'm turning 8800 with an APC 18x8W. Whatever engine you put on a DP model , gas or glow you will be happy, his planes fly great...

Thanks Mokken, I can't wait , it'll be here soon I hope, just as our weather will turn, need a nice day for that first flight.
I'm sure the Dingo will be great if a little expensive to run, We have a company here who blend a fuel called Yamada mix 30% nitro should be nice.
thanks again

Don't forget the Dingo needs low viscosity fuel.

Mokken 09-18-2003 09:18 PM

RE: Dave Patrick Extra help

wdave,

I've run CP 30% Heli fuel which is low viscosity, and the Magnum YS/DZ branded stuff, i've seen no difference in the fuels and CP is the cheapest and I can pick up local.

The DZ smokes a lot almost like a Heli motor so don't worry about all the smoke, it leave a nice contrail while you are flying...almost like have a smoke system.:D

If you have any questions regarding the motor, just post a thread in the engine support forum as there are a few guys who have a ton of exp with them..very helpfull.

Mokken, uploading the video to my server right now, look for a new thread in 15 min. I was not flying it, I was shooting the vid.
