GP Shoestring

Well, I did it...I just bought a Shoestring! Reading all the posititive comments here tipped the scale for me. Unfortunately, the Saito 65 I was going to use, won't fit in the cowl...and I'm not going to cut that nice cowl!
Here's the question....What engine/muffler combinations are you guys using, that will fit entirely in the cowl? Since I'm going to have to buy a new engine for this model, I'd like to know what my options are. I think I'll go two stroke, for cost considerations at this point.....You're comments please!

Thanks, Nigel

Invert it?

Mount your 65 inverted, I have a Saito 100 mounted inverted and fits fine.

I put a nice saito 90TS twin in mine. It fits in the cowl just fine ( although it is a bit of a tight fit!). Turns a 13X8 prop at about 9800 rpm. Flies very scale like, and sounds wonderful! I love this plane! Good luck and have fun with yours!!

Hey RORO, after reading your post, I went back and tried to fit the Saito 65 into the cowl again. I tried inverted before, and I tried it again....Either you've got engine sticking out , or you have a magic wand in your shop! Can I borrow it?

I'd love to put a twin in mine too...yes they sound great! I have an O.S. 160 twin that I fly regularly, and it's my favorite engine!

Your engine mount is upside down! That happened to me when I mounted my Magnum 75 2 stroke.

SOME CUTTING?

monocoupe:
You will have to do some cutting of the cowl to let the head stick out and muffler, but you would have/need to do that for some cooling over the engine anyway. Sorry to confuse you, I ment was that I did not have to cut any sides out of the cowl, still think inverted is the wat to go. Do a search about this plane and you will come accross a thread with a picture of my plane
