Hanger 9 Taylr Craft
I just maidened my Hanger 9 Taylor Craft . What a sweet flying plane . It needed a few clicks of down and that was it ..The G26 started easily and had lots of power .. It had the plane off the ground in about 30 feet with about a 10 knt. head wind .. It flys so rock solid that I was doing loops and rolls by my second flight .. It is very easy to land.. I was quite surprized how slow you can bring it in.. I expected it to need a bit more speed with those short wings ..It rolls fast like its on a wire.. I am so used to my full wing Cubs that this one is quite a lot of fun .. It flys like a very sporty Cub ..I am going to enjoy this plane..

Hi Ken. I maidened my H9 Taylorcraft in August. Same experience as you. Easy to fly and easy to land. On high rates it's rolls quite quickly. I put an OS GT22 in my. Enough power but not too much. I too will enjoy flying this plane. Sean

My T-Craft is the 20cc version. I put a G26ei in it and it has more than enough power. It fly's rock solid with no bad habits. I have found that it lands a little fast without a head wind but that's because it's a pretty clean airplane. A big thumbs up.

Hi CLBAKER. You're right, it is clean and slides thru the air with less drag than many other high wing planes. It's speed is rather deceptive and it comes in to land quite quickly. No flaps to slow it down. I love it, and it looks fantastic in the air. Sean

you can move the CG back a bit and maybe add a little more EL throw if you are comfortable with the plane. This will allow you to extend the flare and keep the nose up a little longer, and slow the final touchdown. Check stall speed up high after moving CG.

love my tayor - with a 160 twin - she just purrrs :cool:http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1945608

A twin really suits this plane because of the shape of the cowl. No ugly cut outs for the cylinder head and plug. Looks great. Sean

Thanks Sean - it does go well and balanced perfectly with this motor - fit by 1/8 - 1/4 inch at cylinder head - so its tight

Hi Blue. I think 22-25cc is perfect for this plane. Mine is powered by a 22cc petrol engine (OS GT22) and it has plenty of power, but is certainly not over powered. I assume your twin is a glow engine. That should have heaps of power for this plane. Any chance of a photo with the cowl removed so we can see how the twin engine is mounted? Thanks. Sean

sure thing - love to show the motor off - yes a glow - I know that gas is alot cheaper in the long run but couldn't help my self - as I got the engine for a steal http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1945717http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1945718http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=1945719

Thanks for the photos. Nice set up, very neat and uncluttered. I like the Keleo Creations twin pipes, and the cage around the seat. If OS ever bring out a petrol version of the FT-160, I'd consider getting one for my Tcraft. Sean

Can you get a cowl that is not pre cut for the G 26 motor ? I have the Taylor Craft and I bought a spare cowl just in case I have a Boo Boo ..I also have a Gemini ..I Presently have a G26 in my T Ccaft .
|
Ken - I'm sure that you can get the replacement cowl for the TCraft - just don;t get the bind and fly cowl - as that of course would have the cutout - enjoy the gemini - its a hoot - not lots of power but I fly mine scale - acouple of loops and stall turns - but love the sound

Ken, the 20cc cowl part number is HAN4907. Sean

and it does not appear to be cut

Thankyou

I enjoy flying more scale like.. High speed is not a high priority with me .. I have a OS 160 Gemini in a 1/4 Scale B.U.S.A. Cub and I find that it has more than enough power ..I also have its clone , the ASP 160 twin that I haven't run yet . I am thinking about putting it in my T Craft .. I too love the way they sound . My OS 160 is my favorite motor .. When I do a low slow pass with my Cub it just makes me happy . I am pretty sure the 160 would be more than enough power for the way I like fly my T Craft ..It might fly even better than it does now because I think I would be losing some weight .. Right now I have the G26 in it . Thanks for the input on the cowls.. That looks like what I need
