NEW Hanger-9 30cc Beaver
 

Mine should be here this next week or 2!!!!..I'm so stoked!!!

Uses the hanger-9 floats, with new strut kit....I'll make sure floats are going to be bashed to take on hard water with carbon fiber laminated on the bottom!! I'll post progress.....my lips are watering!!...

I for one will be very interested in your progress. This plane would have been on my list of next plane had I known it was coming. Instead, I pulled the trigger on the Aeroworks Cessna 195. I'm very satisfied with my choice, but wonder if I would have chosen it with this one available.

It's a sweet kit.

Manual shows the surfaces pre-hinged but it was apparently written based on a prototype as the hinging needs to be done. Ailerons, elevators, and rudder use CA hinges, point style hinges on the flaps just like the Super Cubs

I don't have any evidence to the contrary, but when I get up to 30cc engines, I think that CA hinges are not a good idea. Although like I said I don't have any evidence that they shouldn't be used. I did just finish replacing the CA's on the elevator and rudder of my Ultra Stick Lite. They had become brittle with age and from sitting around.

I've seen them used in 30 and 50cc aerobatics planes without issue. I don't really think they will be an issue on a plane like the Beaver.

I like the fact the float strut sets comes with the yaw dampeners featured on the full scale float Beavers.

I've been waiting for a Beaver big enough to be big, but not so big that its obnoxious to store or transport. This IMO is a perfect size.

CA hinges used on this....They are WAY underestimated!!!

Found something else cool when I pulled out the fuselage last night to install the gear.

The rear cabin door windows are bubble style. That's a touch you don't often see.

CA Hinges are great, IF installed correctly.... Bend them in half, back and forth a few times... Than use a WAX crayon or WAX Pencil and mark on both sides.... The CA will NOT stick to this... You will see it actually push it away into the wood.. That's it... PERFECT EVERY TIME!!

Another instance of assumed pre-installed hinges comes up with the rudder. The torque rod needs to be glued to the rudder then the rudder hinged with CA hinges. When the torque rod goes down into the fuse its hard to get the bottom hinge in place because the torque rod is holding the rudder close to the fin. I ended up cutting the slot deep enough to push the hinge nearly all the way into the fin, setting the rudder in place with the top two hinges, then working the hinge back into the rudder with a pin.

The plus side of the internally driven torque rods is that all the linkages in the tail are completely hidden once the tail cone is installed.

Tail wheel assembly is sweet.

Pull pull cables install easily and there's a ton of room in the cockpit to get even large hands in there to work. Magnetically attached covers keep the radio equipment hidden.

One thing I noticed, this won't easily go back and forth between floats and wheels. The landing gear fairings are made to be glued to the fuselage, unlike the Super Cub where you only have some bolts to deal with to change it out so this is more "one or the other" float plane or land lubber. I'm sure someone clever could figure it out. What I did, since I need to fly it off wheels first, and the float struts aren't in stock yet in any case, is to attach the struts with just a dab of silicon and then go around the edge with Blanderm. Its invisible from more than a few inches away and hopefully it will stay put long enough to let me get flight shots with the gear on and some time on the engine so I'm comfortable with the motor.

Ditto. I've got 2 dozen planes in a basement of a 1,000 square foot house. All around the walls, and wings on the ceiling. I call it heaven.

just put a funace in garage for a new work area now I can order more planes all should be done someday maybe.Would like to order a 100cc cub Bill hemple and his 42% 260

160 twin will fit,,,"AWESOME". wish I had a Saito 5 cyl.....GT55 is a bit big..unless you want to murder the cowl!!

The "N" numbers gotta go!!! and there gone.... I like to add my own!!

This plane will have to have a Gopro in it!! Got the floats at a steal!! Never mounted 125$... Bad thing about these floats is that the Glass is WAYYY to thin,,,I had a set on my Hanger-9 cub, and had to replace them after they cracked on bottom during a take off in the wind.. Waves to big I guess!!... Now I carbon fiber the bottoms,,,,Tough as Steel!!!... Im ready to get building...

[HR][/HR] This is a VERY nice Beaver, So far there is a couple things I do not like...The plug in engine pod, is making me scratch my head.. Why was this added to it? Go back to flat firewall...I have had to remodel the whole thing, and thinking about pulling this all out, and glue'n a firewall to it, and start over...I have a feeling guys who want to put in a radial are going to find out its gonna be tough... Magnum 160 twin in a tight fit!!!!....hmmmm... Im gonna ponder it for an hour or so....ill share the results....

Waiting for mine to arrive. I was planning to use my OS160 Gemini twin converted to gas. After reading the online manual I do not understand what the problem with the slide in engine mount box is. Could you please explain this a little more. From photos in the manual it looks like the tank will be much higher than the carb on the Gemini are you planning on relocating the tank?

NOW,,,I KNOW there is gonna be a TON of comments on this,,,,but,,,for the sake of argument, let me point out that this is my 3rd set of Hanger-9 floats. So I have a system to make sure they last,,,but I can already here the WHAT THE F*@k's!!! hahahaha.... The first set I had were destroyed in a few waves,,,The bottoms needed to be thicker!!! sooooooooooo,,,, Carbon fiber is added.... When this is done, you can run these babies WAYYYYY on the bank!!!...hahahahaha

The added weight is Very little...its carbon fiber,,,light and VERY strong... this is a spendy trick,,,but WELL worth it, as the second set of floats I bought was 189$ for just the floats...carbon fiber $62.50 resin and hardner, 28$...little bit of sanding and finishing, and I have a set of floats that will last for years!!! Take my advise, or don't,,,I just and sick and tired of replacing floats!!!..hahaha..


Tape edges so resin does not go down the side
Sand off color,,,,80 Grit
cut fiber to fit the fronts,.... Never had the aft part of floats damaged, but there is always a first!!
Apply resin with small foam roller, let sit for about 15-20 min, and place fiber on, use rubber gloves, and make it nice and tight to the float...roll on some more on the fiber, lets set for awhile, and make sure there is no lift....let dry for the night, have a beer, and Dremmel off extra later,,,"""USE A MASK!!!!"""" STUFF IS NOT GOOD TO BREATH IN!!!

Going to match the Beaver.. Sanded off at least one coat of glass resin to make smooth.... no need for filler... Prime and paint
