Evolution 15cc for TF .61 P47 Thunderbolt

Aloha RCU Members,

I need some input on engine selection. I just received my .61 size TF P-47 and am considering an Evolution 15 cc engine with a wrap around muffler. Would this be a good choice for this model? I currently have four other glow planes and want to transition into gasoline for lower operating cost and greater endurance. I have read many reviews on this engine and rc flyers either love or hate these engines. Any advice is appreciated.

Thanks!

In my opinion, it would fly just fine. I have the same plane with a DLE 20 and it is a little overpowered. I don't know the price of your engine choice but Valley View RC has their own brand 20 cc engine that runs great and a good price.

I fly mine on a 17x6 prop at 2/3rds throttle and it looks and handles great.

Note, with the DLE or the VVRC engines you won't need the aftermarket mufflers.

Thanks Lifer,

did your P47 Require any mods to fit the DLE 20 with the dummy radial cover? The 15 CC costs $250 and the wrap around muffler is $70 so all total it's about the same price as the DLE.

No, it didn't require mods. Also, I recommend the side-exhaust version as it's install is easier. I still recommend the VVRC 20 as it is a better value and in many regards a better engine.
