RE: newbie
Welcome to the hobby. You need to begin by talking with the guys at your field. Find an instructor and ask him/her about what buddy box they primarily use in helping new pilots learn how to fly. Learn with an instructor. Also ask the people at your club for a trainer airplane recommendation. There are several good trainers on the market. IMHO the Hobbico Superstar 40 is a sure winner. It's easy to assemble and it flies and works well. Here is a thread article I wrote for all of us at our club as a reminder of the basics. It's a long read, but good info to help you get started. Take your time to research the basics and get off to a good start with a trainer and a teacher.

Another RTF/ARF option for you is Hangar9's Alpha 40. I haven't flown it but a father and son have one in our club. I have seen it fly many times and have watched their progress over the summer. It's a very stable plane yet handles the "unconventional" flying of new pilots very well. (The nine-year-old boy had "video game" syndrome and did stuff with that plane that would curl your hair!)
From what I saw, it looks to be a great way to get into R/C. Horizon Hobby is the online distributor but may hobby shops carry it in stock. Good luck and welcome. |
RE: newbie
Might want to repost this question in the beginners forum....that's where it belongs.

RE: newbie
LT 40 is the best by far.

RE: newbie
I would recommend a Hobbico Avistar. It is a great trainer and a good second plane with an engine upgrade.
