Sugestions for for first bipe?

I'm looking at 40 size biplanes (ARFs) . What are the really good ones out there? I'll run a ST-45 and don't need unlimited vertical or blazing speed but now a slow flier either. Snap-o-matics are out too! So far those in the running are the TT bipe, one the many Ultimate 40s available or the PAM Tiger Moth (not too sure about the .45). Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks,

2alpha:

Take a look at the Global "Ultimate". It flies like it's on a set of rails. A great first time bipe!

Good luck

The Ultimate is probably your best bet for an arf-however, I can't help but suggest the Smith Miniplane from Sig-even though it's a builder.(Do you like my run-on sentences?) It takes a Lot of work, but it is worth every ounce of sweat, frustration, anguish and drop of blood. I know your wanting an arf, but consider it. It is a sheer joy to fly![sm=thumbup.gif]

The general consensus is the Dave Patrick Ultimate is the "ultimate" Ultimate. The others are very good too, but DP has refined it to another level.

That being said, DP is weak as far as shipping on time. They shut down their office for weeks at a time when they go to shows. This forum has a number of stories from not-so-happy DP customers.

I for one have ordered a DP Ultimate 120 back in July and they keep saying one more month... now they're not expecting them until end of November, which means it may not make it to me until December or later. At least they haven't charged my card yet...

I'm not sure if they have the 40 sized Ulimates in stock or not, but I doubt it. Another source for the DP planes is Chief Aircraft, but they currently only list the Edge since that's what they have in stock.

So, if you want the best, can wait and won't need customer service, get the DP. Otherwise, looks like the CG is a good buy.

Dave Patrick has the market on Ultimates. Bad rap on getting one and service-- but still super flyers.

Any thoughts on the World Models Ultimate 40 ?
I have a WM combat zero that flies well and for the price is a real bargain.

Well-- all I can say is that "Dave Patrick made the Ultimate the super plane it is today-- first with Carl Goldberg-- then with his own company" If it were not for him, this plane would not have reached the popular status it enjoys today. everything else is an imatation in my opinion.

Look for the Goldberg Ultimate ARF from all of the info on the threads it looks like a great plane. I have a Great Planes ultimate but it comes in a kit not an ARF. It is a nice plane also. The DP looks like the one to get also.

The EAA bibe by balsa usa flys like a trainer and yet is very manuverable with 4 ailerons. Its the right size for you engine and is very light. I think it would be a good "first bibe".

RE: Sugestions for for first bipe?

The EAA is a full build and I really don't have the time or desire to build but thanks for the input.

Budgetary constraints and availability considered I think it's going to be the Global. Sounds like the "bang for buck" winner! Thanks all
