RE: Extra 300S pic
AWESOME AWSEOME PLANE!! Gotta love it! Nice pic, I got the 58" version due for retirement this fall, already looking at the 66" version to replace it.

Skyking:
How long did it take you to put it together? I got one on order myself, should be here next week sometime. What does it weigh less the motor? Miloh. |
RE: Extra 300S pic
Miloh,
Wish I could answer your questions but I have only been working on it a little at a time. My guess would be about 12 hours as is. I think I did more sitting and looking at it before doing any work then anything else. I hate doing things over! The formed plastic wheel pants went in the trash and I ordered a set from Tower. Also I had to bend the gear just a little forward to give the back of the wheel pants ground clearance that is when I painted the gear black. I am not a big fan of the stick on graphics for the cowl so I am masking it off and painting it I am thinking about adding Different Mfg. decals to it also. I had a spare set of 3" dia. wheels so that is what went on it I don't have a clue as to what it weighs. I will put the Super Tigre 90 on it so I figure that will haul it around ok for me. I am still new to this. Been flying for 7 months most of the last 2 month have been flying my GP Venus 40 with an OS 70 four stroke. I like to play but haven't got into the 3D stuff. I just hope Sponge Bob can fly  |
RE: Extra 300S pic
Skyking, the plane looks smooth. A flying buddy of mine owns the old 66" Epic, and said he had a time w/ it due to being tail heavy right out of the box... w/ the recommended CG. Does that seem to be a problem w/ yours.
P.S. Spongebob can do anything:D |
RE: Extra 300S pic
I hope to have the engine Monday afternoon then I will be able to check the CG. Nice ARF no real problems so far. Anyone have any ideas on prop sizes for the Super Tigre 90 ?

RE: Extra 300S pic
Hay skyking I'm using a tigershark .91 and it likes a 13x6 a lot but it also likes a 14x6. the 13x6 gets me a lot of speed where the 14x6 seems to make a lot more bottom end pull, the plane wants to jump off the ground a lot sooner. This is on a GP 300s it has the same wingspan and weight as the VF 300. I have a SuperTiger .75 I use on an ultra stick and it also likes a 13x6. I would start with a 13x6 for break in and adjust to your liking from there.

RE: Extra 300S pic
Thanks for the info Miloh I have a 13x6 in my box of goodies already so like you said that is one to start off with. I may just try the 14 size later. I would rather have the pull then the speed anyway.

RE: Extra 300S pic
Well Fatboy I got the engine in and you are correct about it being tail heavy. I have
15 oz stuck on the inside of the firewall to get it to balance at 4" |
RE: Extra 300S pic
Where can i get a sponge bob? :D
|
RE: Extra 300S pic
Skyking: Are you saying that with a g .90 you had to add 15 ounces to the front to balance? somthing sounds wrong there. how much does this thing weigh with this a g.90 and 15 ounces up front?

RE: Extra 300S pic
FYI, I think that the 4 inches from L.E. is a very liberal balance point. I could tell mine was tail heavy on landing once the tank was dry. I added 3 ounces to the motor mount. I am using a O.S. 91 FX. It pulles the plane awesome. I think you guys will do fine with any of those 91's.

RE: Extra 300S pic
I had to beg my son for Sponge Bob, He came off his birthday cake.
|
RE: Extra 300S pic
Not sure on the weight Miloh. My bathroom scale isnt great. When I was all done with and put the 13 x 6 Master Airscrew prop on it came out to 12 oz. on the inside of the firewall.

RE: Extra 300S pic
Bevertail,
The paper I got with it said to balance it from 4 to 4 1/4 inches so I started at 4 from the leading edge. That is with the GP balance machine and that this is touchy. |
