GP Wagstaff Extra....Ongoing Problems What would YOU do??

Guys, need your advice here. I had the canopy come off my Wagstaff Extra and have had them ship me 2 in the last few weeks. Neither fit even close. There is a 1/2" gap in the back of the canopy and it looks like crap. I am completely unhappy and am tired of calling Great Planes about this. You'd think that this wouldn't be a difficult problem. Plus, it took them 3 tries to send me a set of stabilizer tubes that were center drilled on both ends, and that were the correct length. I am exasperated!!!!! This is a great flier, but all it does it sit in my shop due to these ongoing issues. What would you do?? Please chime in here!!!!!

That is sounding like a typical ARF story, I'm glad to hear you at least call and complain thats what the a lot of these companys need , a good kick in the ass. As for the plane I'd push for a whole new one or your money back, give them their choice, and good for you keep up the fight I'm with you!!!

If I understand correctly you now have stab tubes that work and just have a canopy problem.
Well.. just fix it , either add 1/2" of balsa to the leading end of the canopy and redrill for a new hold pin or make a backplate for the back of the canopy and sand it to fit and cover it. In the world of arf's as in almost any other manufacturing you will have run differences and you will just have to make it work. True you probably shouldnt have to do this but If you want to get to flying.......

smallfly-RCU:

I do agree with this line of thinking, I have spent a lot of time with each and every one of my ARF's before flying. this is reality. I have mixed feelings about how to feel about buying a product and expecting it to be what is represented by the Mfg. and being a realist about all the things that can go or be wrong with these flying models.
Do they really test these things?? I think to be confident about the product they sell they should take one from prodcution run each week and build it and fly it, do they do this? does anyone knoe if they do this? It just seems that things we hear from eack other about these things that they just build a proto type and never check the run of production.

Oh well just rambling.

Why not heat and reform the canopy to match your fuse? Heat a pot of water, test the temp with a scrap - when it softens some dunk the canopy, then remove it. Tape it to the fuse in the appropriate position, return once it has cooled.

et voila.

It is just plastic, after all.

The good news, GP will likely replace the canopy if you call their customer service line.
The bad news is that they are on back order and won't be available untill mid November. Mine had a 3 degree mismatch between the canopy and the fuse. There was no way " a little sanding" was going to correct this. What I don't understand is that if the canopy and fuse are truly fitted as a set, there can be such an awful mismatch.
Good luck
