SIG 1/4 scale Extra Question

How is the covering, can you purchase matching covering.
What's on the bottom of the fuse where the wings go throught, is it seperate or part of the wing? is it plastic, ply, etc.??
Are the wings built up or foam core?, what about the tail?

RE: SIG 1/4 scale Extra Question

It's a super airplane in my view. I have a one with a zenoa 26 on it, perfect combination. You can get matching covering for it is listed in the instruction booklet. Everthing is built up balsa and ply and good construction. One piece wing with a belly pan on the wing to match fuse. Great kit.

RE: SIG 1/4 scale Extra Question

I have one as well, powered with a zdz 40. It is an excellent flying plane and high quality all around. Like any arf though it does have a couple of issues. On mine I noticed that thee was very little glue used on the exposed joints so I went over every single joint on the plane that I could get to without cutting up the covering.
The covering on the plane is Ultracoat. The white on mine matches the roll I bought perfectly the black does too. The plum, purple or whatever came close but not a complete match. I servo'd mine with Hitec 5645 and 5975 digitals and so far am extremely happy with the plane. Flies the pattern beautifully.

Those who have used a glow motor have had to add weight to get it to balance. I didn't have any balance issues with mine at all.

built up wings with an attached belly pan (you do the attaching) tail is air foiled . The belly pan is made of contest grade balsa structure with ultracote over it. Very light. The wings are bals ribbed with lite ply stiffiners between the spars

RE: SIG 1/4 scale Extra Question

I had the 300XS and really really liked it. Mine was powered by a MOKI 1.8 and had no balance issues at all. It had a pilot figure in it. I took out the 5oz pilot and swapped the aluminum gear for carbon fiber. It ligthened the plane by 3/4 pound. This combo flew great!

It came to an untimely demise one day. It was in a nice deep flat spin. I ran out of altitude and had an unavoidable collision with the terrain. Again, great plane. Very smooth.

Very nice plane. Powered mine with a ST 2000 (1.20). No balance problems, right on the money. I also have the Cap 231EX from SIG with a ST2500 (1.50). While the Cap gets repaired the 1.50 motor will go into the Extra. The SIG ARF's are one of the best IMO.

hey Bdtsr,

How did the Sig Cap compare to the Sig Extra as far as flying characteristics, overall quality etc etc??
