H9 Edge

Hi,

Any thoughts out there on using Futaba S9101 servos for the elevator on a H9 Edge 540? I have converted my edge to use one servo per elev half mounted in the tail. I'm powering the machine with a Moki 1.8 . I actually flew the machine last year a few times, but this year I'm looking at trying a few 3d moves. I guess I'm getting paranoid - this is not a metal geared servo.

Here are the specs on the servo at 4.8v - I'm using 6v NiCd:

S9101 Coreless BB 41.7oz/in

High speed; water resistant; gold plated connectors

Thanks,
Mike

That should be enough. A few guys are using the hitec mini 225bb servos for the elevator. I've decided to use a y rod with a hitec 645-107 oz. in torque on 4.8 volts

The manual recommends 50 in/oz for standard flying
and 90 in/oz for 3D flying.

Combined at 6v I should have better than 100oz/in, but I was concerned about the nylon gears vs meal gears. Probably just paranoid BUT it could be good thinking. :-)

Thanks for the replies.

I put JR 8101's in mine with plastic gears.
The manual shows them installing JR 531's which are plastic.
That is a good question that I didn't think about!
The one good thing about plastic is that it doesn't vibrate the screws out as bad as metal.

That servo will be fine.
If in doubt, go to a 5 cell pack
