Arising star engine mount
1 Attachment(s)
I've just started building an ARTF called Arising star. However, the engine mount doesn't seem to fit my engine. The engine is supposed to be fixed by 4 screws. The distance between the holes on the engine mount and the engine isn't the same, on the engine the difference between the two holes is about 2 cm, while the distance on the engine mount is 4 cm. Is it enough to fix the engine with two screws (one on each side)? Or should I replace the engine? The engine is a SC40A (Aero RC ABC Engine (MkII)). As you can probably tell I'm a total newbie :) I have only used an electric slow-flyer before, this is my first glow engine aeroplane.
Thanks for you help! Tom |
RE: Arising star engine mount
No, two screws wouldn't be enough. You need to drill two new holes in the mount at the 4cm spacing. Line the engine up with the existing holes that do fit, and then mark the position of the new holes on the mount. That should do it.

Thanks SteveW! Is it normal that you have to make additional holes? I'm only curious, since the engine was bought in a set that included the body of the plane and everything else to be able to fly.

Tomsecret,
I'm not sure about your ARF kit, it may have been an oversight by the manufacturer. Here in the USA most motor mounts are sold undrilled so the modeler can place the engine where it's needed. |
RE: Arising star engine mount
Hold on there Tom. It sounds like you have one of the clamp style mounts. Check your instructions carefully and you will probably see that there are two flat metal bars with holes near the ends. The holes in the bars will match the holes in the mount. You put the engine on the mount, put the bars on top of the the engine's mounting lugs and then tighten the bars down to clamp the engine into place.
These mounts are very common in trainer ARFs. Jim |
RE: Arising star engine mount
I was reading this thread last night, and I have a Rinsing Star in back where I have my models stored. I went to check the kit, and the post before this one is accurate, it is a universal mount, so that about any engine can be mounted. So you should have no problem mounting any .40 size engine on it.

RE: Arising star engine mount
Thanks alot! Yes that part about mounting plates was correct. If anyone still reads this thread I have another question: How am I supposed to fill the tank with fuel: Take it out each and every time and fill it or disconnect the fuel line from the motor and use that line.

RE: Arising star engine mount
Disconnect it from the engine. Be sure you use a fuel filter between your fuel can and the tank.
