What is everyone else running in this plane, I am going with a Saito 72, hope it's powerful enough, what do you think?? I tried to put a 91 but wouldn't fit in the cowl with the timber engine mounting rails already installed. :confused:

I have seen this plane with a ST90 in it. The balance was shifted so the plane was a little tail heavy. The plane flew great.

Gentlemen,

Are you referring to Model Tech's 60 sized P51 or 40 sized P51? I just purchased a 60 sized Model Tech P51. It is an ARC and needs covering. The construction goods good. Anyone have comments about how this bird flies?

The Model Tech ARF looks to be similar in size to the WM Stang, which flies quite well on a 72. I think that the WM is just a tad lighter than the Model Tech, so I think you'll do fine with that engine. BTW, what's the Model Tech version covered with? I've got a Kyosho and it's sticky backed. I think that the OK/EZ is also covered by sticky backed, but the WM uses iron on...

The Model Tech P51 I got has a wing span of 66". It is very similar to Top Flight's 60 sized kit. The Model Tech P51 comes with no covering. I will cover it with Monocote. I will use my OS 120 with pump on this bird.

Again, appreciate any comments on how this Model Tech P51 flies.

The 60 ARC Stang flys great, mine has a st90 with a perry pump and carb and it is breath taking! The century jet retracts w/olio struts(mechanicals)are sloppy but have performed well.The thing takes off well ,but will tork to the left quite a bit but is controllable. I always land with full flaps and wheel land it ,it is so sweet to land. With gobs of flaps coming in to hot is never a problem. Now with a st90 of course dead sticks will ocur in which i'll suck up the gear and flaps and, belly it in on that beautifull scoop, no problem. It loops and rolls nice and knife edges,havent snap it though.It can cover some ground fast and you now its a mustang in the air ,you'll love it. Now the antique motor mts are crap and will loosen up . I updated mine to a more conventional setup.Good luck, Jay

This is the 46 size ARF they just put out. It comes with mechanical retracts. I will fly it for the first time this week.....can't wait! Also, this ARF has ultracoat for the covering, and not a bad job being covered by the factory. Anyone fly it with the Saito 72? Would like to hear some first hand experience, they recommend running a magnum 56 4stroke I think???? So I thought the 72 would be a good bump up, This is my first 4 stroker so I'm a novice on how much power this will give.....any more feedback would be great!!!!!

I have a 40 sized Kyosho P51. I have been flying it with an OS 46. Recently, I put a Saito 72 on it. It flies much better.

I have just purchased a MT P51, i installed a OS 46 FX , has plenty of power and speed. To prevent the engine from overheating , I had to cut out a section in the bottom of the cowl to increase air flow to the engine. Also make sure to go over ALL of the covering with a heat iron. The mechanical retracts are ( fair ) the steel gear is a little weak , and tends to bend ,even when taxing. Over all, i love the Model Tech arfs, they fly very well. I have had 2 Sukhoi s , and this P 51 .All have balanced perfectly, and needed very little trim on the first flight
