Anyone have GP Cessna pics?
 

Hi I'm getting interested in a Great Planes Cessna 182 ARF and I was wondering if anybody had any pics of this plane. I like the looks of the plane but for some reason I just want to see the plane in the real world. I'm trying to figure out whether I want to buy the ARF sometime or have the T/F built up by RC Custom kit builders.

I have a few dumb questions, so I am going to ask them. I am in the process of building my first plane (a GP Cessna 182 - it won't be the first plane I fly, don;t worry). If anyone can help me with a smart answer, I would really appreciate it:
1. How do you route the antenna in the Cessna? Does it stay inside the fuselage? I want it to look as scale as possible.
2. Is there any way to make the cowling look scale without cutting big holes in the side for the glow plug and pin valve? Has anyone ever made a plastic door? Again, I want it to look as scale as possible.

Hi Bob:
I ran my antenna down the bottom to the tail. can't even see it. Also I am running a G-23 on mine and it fits like a glove.

Whodaman, does the antenna stick out the back of the tail at all, or is it in the fuselage completely?

What is the reason for running the antenna down the bottom? Is there any risk if you keep it fully inside the fuselage?

No risk. I just ran mine out the bottom

My antenna stops just short of the leading edge of the tail section, so there should be plenty of room to run it inside

I ran my antenna through a nyrod tube INSIDE the fuselage and out the back just before the fiberglas tail cone. I just made sure I routed it through the back end as far away from the three metal pushrods as possible. It range checked fine and flew with no radio glitches. I run an old Airtronics 6 channel with standard Airtronics RX and servos. This is what I do to all of my planes except a Venus which looked like it was just too much of a pain to fish it through!

Gary, is there a reason you ran the antenna out just before the fiberglass tail cone and not through the fiberglass tail cone?

I just think it is easier to exit a wood structure which gives you a good gluing point and the abilty to fill in the gaps with a little spread of white spackling compound. To exit the fiberglas cone you would have to drill it, create a hole and run the carrying tube out of it(?) ........not too scale looking, etc. Besides it just leaves the tail cone smooth, intact and nice looking. Just my opinion.[:-]:)

Here is mine I just got today. Looks like a very nice model and well built the only thing I see so far is a lil ironing to do and the nose gear is crap but easily replaced.

rlw162 I'm using robarts nose gear fixed strut (the same one recomended for the Top Flite 1/5 scale kit) I softened the springs in it and I run my ant. out the bottom.

You got that right! lol I'm ordering my robart strut now , I'm gonna power it with a .52 OS 4 stroke , I was gonna use a spare 46 fx I have but that would be overkill on this plane. [sm=thumbup.gif]

Can anyone share details of how they made their GP Cessna more scale without putting a lot of weight on it? Since I am hearing the finish of my plane, I want to add a little more to it. I have already put a red LED (non-operational) in the tail, and I am considering adding a few more items. Any additional advice would be greatly appreciated.
