How to make an ignition systems

in the next couple of months i am planning on purchasing the U-Can-Do 3D 60 size and am going to install an OS FS91 Surpass II (my first 4 Stroke engine). Well from what i have been reading on the U-Can-Do it requires the engine to be inverted and I also have herd that 4 Strokes dont idol to well inverted so I am looking for a simple and easy to build ignition system to install in it. Thanx Guys for any info on this matter. :D

The simplest I know of is to put a wheel collar on a 2-56 rod that is used for your throttle. The wheel collar acts as a stop for a lever arm micro switch. Adjust the micro switch so that it turns off at anything above 1/4 throttle. The micro switch controls a Ni-Cad cell for your glow plug. Put an external switch and charge jack on it and you've got it.

Don't even think of using a 9 volt battery on a glow plug. The voltage rating of most plugs is 1.5 volts, 2 volts at most. You'll be eating up plugs one a minute.

You'll probably go through 9 volt batteries quite fast, too.

A standard Nicad C or D cell, a micro switch and some sort of linkage will do fine. Use heavy wires, maybe #16 or so, stranded, and keep the lead length short for lower voltage drop.

Either connect it to your throttle servo, or use a second servo operated by another switch on the transmitter (retracts?) and you can turn the plug on and off anytime.

Remember to shut off the plug when you're done flying.

Get a hold of "Geistware" here on the RCU. he has some schematics on a "Simple Glow driver." I have 3 of these setups and work great for a couple years now.

I wouldn't use one at all, you should have no trouble running your O.S. inverted. The majority of my 4-strokes (O.S. and Saito) have been run inverted with no problems. Good luck!
