Vectorflight extra 300, which size
 

Can you guys give me a little insight. I have an Ultra stik with an OS 91fx and I have a magnum 91 xls and I was wondering which vectorflight 300 i should get. I mean I know the 58 would fly insane with a 91, but how about the 66 inch one?

I like the power the 91's put out for the Ultra Stik 60....Unlimited vertical and easy pull from a hover. I know, however that the Ultra stik is lighter than the extra 66. Not too sure about the 58 though. Will I get the same performance out of teh 66 or would it be better with maybe a 108 2 stroke? I am a big fan of "too much power is barely enough" LOL

My current setup is 91FX powering the 66. Has unlimited vertical, balances perfectly. Last time I checked it was a tad under 8 lbs all up. The 58 is about a pound lighter and will be even more powerful with a 91.

Yup. My Goldberg 300 is closer to 12 pounds with the smoke system, gear replacement and repairs, and tail reinforcements for the three servos.
It flat out screams with a 1.08 and 16x6. I can't "fly" it at full throttle... generally run it a little above half throttle for straight and level flight.
If I were to do it again, I'd use the .91 (or a 1.20). At the time I built mine, the .91 and 1.08 were the same engine block, so the 1.08 was a touch lighter. Today, with the FX series, the .61 and .91 are the same block, so you're looking at a significant weight savings, and still more than enough power.

My buddy built a Goldberg Ultimate, but decided to cover in Solartex and then paint it. Three coats of primer and two coats of paint plus a clear and it ended up at 14 pounds. Flew like a brick with an old OS Max .80 (dual glow plugs!). He dumped that for a Magnum 1.08 (ABC, OS is ringed) and it now has unlimited vertical. The Magnum 1.08 swings a prop 1 inch smaller than the OS 1.08, so I'd guess that the FX .91 would be comparable in power to the Magnum 1.08

Has anyone tried the 58" w/ a .61? I have an OS .61 FX I'd like to use.

Given that both the 58" and 66" are intended to be flown with a 60 2cy to 100 4cy, I think a strong ball-bearing .61 would be more than adequate for the 58". Stay away from the cheapies and certainly any bushing style engine, but I think the FX would do fine.

I fly the Sukhoi with a Magnum .91 4cy. It's not a total powerhouse, but it flies just fine, and vertical is beyond MY abilities to keep it going straight up :)

Hey,

How are you guys doing. Would a saito 91 be a powerfull enough engine for the vector 58" or 66" or not. Im trying to decide between the great planes 300 40 size or the vector extra 300 58". I realize that you have to enlarge the surfaces on the great planes in order to do 3d from what i have read. Is the vector 300 58" capable of 3d or is it more of IMAC plane. If you have any other suggestions for a good 3d aerobatic plane for my saito 91 i would appreciate it.

I have a Mag .91 4s in my VF Extra66 and it flys just fine... My Extra weighed out right on 8 pounds.. The mag is swinging a 14X6 APC prop at 9700 rpm on 15 percent PowerMaster... The engine is still breaking in.. I also have the GP 40 size ARF Extra with a Mag .91 4s in it... A real fun plane and flys pretty good... Going from it to the VF Extra 66 is like going from a VW to a Roles Royce though...
