Best Zero ARF

I would like to hear from anybody that has purchased a Zero sixty size or bigger lately. Could you give me the pros and cons of the kit? Quality is very important to me as well as how it flies. Thank you very much.

The World Models have a new ARF Zero GS 1.60. Has a 80 in. WS, 67.7 L, 15.5 lbs, wing is 1,085 sq. in. Price according to MAN will be $549.99. It has a very nicely painted fiberglass fuse, cowl, and built up wings, and comes with retracts preinstalled. Canopy is prepainted. It looks really nice, I'll say that. It would be nice to hear from anyone who gets one. I wouldn't mind having one of em.

Grahamd I. Please keep us informed on the zero build. How is your corsair coming? I got rid of mine after the first flight due to the cracked wing. Wish you best of luck. Good day.

I`ve got the WM 60 size ZERO. Very solid. Easy assembly. Tiny wheels and wobbly gear. Otherwise it flies great. Powered by a MDS68. Needed 8 oz. weight in the nose though.

Our club prez has been flying the GS ZERO from World for a while now and he can say only good things about it.
He fly's it with a Zen. G-38 and smoke and the combo is near perfect.
Even with the weight of the engine and smoke system the factory gear holds up well and is foregiving on hard landings.
The fuse has all the panel lines, access covers and rivets on it.
Do a search for the World Zero and see some pics I took ot the one hanging in Sheldon's Hobbies.

what type of plane is the zero?

A Zero is the premier World War II fighter of the Japanese.

Mitsubishi A6M model designation, or we called it the "zero", just like we called other japanese fighters by other nick-names like frank, tony and many other code names. It's a lot easier to say zero than A6m 53 and it gives you a faster mental picture than number designations.I'm not sure if the names were NATO designated or if NATO even existed back then or not. I'm sure I could do a quick search and find out though.

Best Zero ARF I ever had was the 60" span one from EZ. I put an OS91 4 stroker in it and that plane flew like it was on rails. Very nimble. Also docile on landing. After 300+ flights an intentional spin did her in. Just not enough rudder area. Other than that it's the best damn ARF Zero ever made.

Just recieved my 71" Zero fighter from GSP and looked it over real good. Kit quality seems to be excellent. The fiberglass fuse and cowl are perfest and the flat paint really looks sharp. There is lots of panel lines and rivets molded into the fuse. The included muffler exhausts (copper) are prebent and look nice sticking out of the cowl. This kit comes with fixed landing gear and I am waiting for my CJ retracts as I type. Should be here this week. The CJ retracts were designed for this kit and are 239.00 delivered. Only thing you have to buy extra is a pump to air up the tank. The kit is priced at 259.00 from GSP and at this price you can not go wrong. When I opened up the wing to get ready for retract installation I noticed that the glue holding the landing gear mount is a little thin in this area. I was able to get thick ca into all the joints pretty easily to help strengthen things up. I will be putting a Roto 25 in the nose. Good luck on what you decide. I did my homework on this purchase and at this price you can almost get 2 of these birds to 1 of wm's. Is WM's plane twice as good? I don't think so. When you factor that most people replace the retracts in this plane you are almost to 800.00. Just my 2 cents.

VVictum, keep us posted on how the ROTO 25 works out. I love gassers!

Dont forget the WM comes with retracts (i know not the good) and is a much larger plane, i have seen both the 80" Zero and the 71" zero at the fields and the WM looks and is much bigger

There is another .60 size zero being sold by Hobby Barn I think. Any ideas on this one? My personal favorite so far is the WM 80", but it is a pricey son-of-a-gun! I have a Brison 2.4 that is just begging for this plane. I would also want to add a smoke system to the nose and add pneumatic retracts to it.

hgiles, I don't see the .60 size zero that you mentioned on Hobby Barn website. Do you have a link to it? Are you sure it's not the current WM .60 size zero?

Richard, I believe the ZERO hgiles referred too was a kit and it hasn`t been advertised in a year or two. Dont know who made it but you may find it in some back issues of RC mags. Maybe it was an ARF but it looked really scale.

RE: Best Zero ARF

The zero I am refering to was in a magazine advertisement. I think I most recently saw it in the FLY RC page 145. It didn't look like the WM --looked like a darker green like the Kyosho shade. I will look it up again tonight.

It shows a 62" ws, the WM is 60" I think. Not sure of the manufacturer for the one advertised. the price is $199.

I have the world models 60 zero all set up and ready to go except for the control throws. I put an OS 61FX on it that I had from a previous wreck. I'm afraid to fly this plane because I had to put almost 1 pound of shot in the nose to get it to balance. Anyone else have to wieght this beast down? It concerns me to have so much wieght up front. My tank and servo are all mounted close to the front as possible. Guess I should buy a YS 110 for this plane. Any comments on the weight and the engine guys?

Hello,

It is interesting that there are many SCALE zeros that are overlooked by modelers. The BEST SCALE looking Zero that I have seen is the GSP or ESM made by China Model Production that was released about a year ago. It is at 91 inch span (not the 71 inch). It looks EXTREMELY scale and it is made perfectly for the BiBi action figure. As far as looks, it is simply stunning!

where can I find out more info on this 91 in zero .I have only seen the smaller one in ads I have the WM GS Zero and it flies great .Retracts are not good but struts and a little work and they are ok. I have noticed some small cracks starting in the fuse but I have lots of flying time on it. Handles very well on take off and landing

I too have the WM 60 ZERO. And I too have nearly a pound in the nose. Mine has the MDS68 which is very close to the OS in weight. The only problem you may have is on take off. I had to shim the landing gear forward to help keep it from nosing over. It is still a fine balancing act but once in the air, it is one of the best flying planes I have. Very nice. Landing is a non issue. The MDS68 with 14x5 prop pulled it nicely at a scale speed.

I've got a WM Zero .60 also. .91 FS II, a few(???) oz of weight in the nose, new paint job(in progress). At the risk of repeating what everybody else said - Good stuff: Excellent construction(fiberglass/ply/balsa wings), nice flying plane(mine hasn't yet-seen/flown others), and it's cheap :) (always good!). Down side: wobbly LG, instructions are so-so, and IT'S THE WRONG COLOR!!!!!! [:@] The Japanese didn't paint their planes in olive drab! (and still don't). Overall, a very nice plane anyway! Not sure about the G.S., looked nice in the magazines - but they always do ;)

I'm not sure what they have at the moment, but last time I was in Hobby Barn, I think they had a WM .60, and a whole bunch of the Marukta(sp?) kits. memory is a little foggy - that was three+ months ago... [:o]

Crownvic,

Go to GSP and look under ARF section. The model is made by China Model Production. There are other places that you can order other than GSP. That Zero is simply STUNNING!!!! Too bad I am converting everything to electric or else I would buy that plane. Dai
