has anyone ever flown the christen eagle 2 without the top wing on? if so how well does she fly without it? i am thinkin that she would look just like the 300s..... anyways i was thinkin of tryin it but need to know if it has been done? or can be done?....

Seen wings blown off of Byron Pitts and Eagles before.. got so nose heavy all of a sudden that they flew like rocks... but never saw one flying with lower wings only that was balanced for it..... that would be funky :)

would be... but really..can it be done? and what are the throws for this beast anyways? when i bout her she was all together without a manual or instruction..... its a 3rd scale 66" top wing , 65" bottom wing and 56" fuse

Don't know about the eagle but my dad had the top wing of a GP Skybolt blow off once and it flew in for a landing just fine.

Yes, the model will fly, but the wing loading will be double what it is with only one wing instead of two. Be careful with the elevator and don't fly too slow. It would be interesting to try, but I wouldn't do it with a model you really like. Also, no, it won't fly just like a 300s due to the wing loading and shorter tail moment. I would expect it to fly more like a heavy warbird.

Reminds me of a friend of mine.... WAY back, he had a Goldberg Eaglet.. and he used to try differnet wings on it.. I think he rubber -banded a butterfly wing on it, and also a 30" or so wing from Ace (foam wing) on it.. I'd be tempted to do stuff like that on cheaper planes than the Eagle :) IMO :)...but it would look cool ;) and confuse a lot of people

just to see if it would work john.... anyways i am not goin to do it...i was just askin a simple question.....plane costs a fortune and now that pilot is gone outta business it kinda makes it hard to buy this baby again....

Sure, it will work. There's no reason it wouldn't. Just remember the wing loading. If you were to try it, I'd rebalance the model for the single wing. But, I bet it flies like a total dog.

BTW, Pilot did not go out of business. Neither did EZ. The plant burned down several years ago. All of the designs housed in the building were lost. But, they have rebuilt and are rebuilding their offering list. Yes, the EZ Christian Eagle is hard to find, but there are quite a few others out there if you look. And, it's quite common to find ragged out EZ models at swap meets for next to nothing. That's the type of model I would use if I were to get a wild hair.

i was told pilot went outta business.... do they have a website? i picked mine up for 60.00... without radio equip. and engine... i put in my jr equipment and hoping to trade a cessna i have here nevr flown with an o.s max in it...for a engine for my bipe.working or not workin but i need a twin

Don't go with the top wing off. Why would you buy a biplane and then try and fly it with the top wing off [&o] ? Oh well, to each it's own. ;)

Anyway, as for the throws : The settings for the GP Christen Eagle should just work fine for yours, since it seems to have about the same dimentions. You can download the manual for GP eagle here : http://www.greatplanes.com/parts/index.html

The intuitive idea of the wing load being doubled on loss of upper wing of a biplane (both upper and lower having same area) is mathmatically correct and practicaly wrong.

There is an effect of mlti-wings where the airflow between the wings has them intterfering with each other's lift production... you lose a portion of you lift based on the airspeed, distance between the wings, chord, and span. The smaller the scale of the aircraft... the worse the effect.

If I remember... isn't the Eagle's lower wing about 70% the area of the upper? That is one heck of a lot of wing to take off of an airplane and then try to fly it. (with no other changes except CG shift) I agree with the one who said... HEAVY warbird performance. (If it has the power to get off the ground)

the top wing is 66" bottom is 65" and fuse is 56" its the pilot kit.... i am not to good at the math so i'll leave well enough alone... thanks again.....
