Vector Flight Edge/Extra 66" Engine

I am looking for help on the size of the engine required for either the Vector Flight Edge or Extra 66". I have two engines an OS 70 Surpass and an ASP 61 two stroke. I have read where most people have gone to a larger engine, has anyone used these size engines? I am looking to use this plane to progress so speed or 3D is not necessary I just need something that will smooth and a little forgiving at first. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)
Thanks

Charles

both are likely to underpower the thing. the asp 61 would have a little more power, but they both really lack the power to pull it around nicely.see, if you want to progress, a bit more power is desirable because you want to have the ability to add a bunch of power when you get into trouble because unlike the trainer, they will stall out and power is the only tyhing that can help you there. you can be the best flyer in the world but recovering from a very dangerous situation without much power is not always possible. if you don't want a bunch of power but want enough to do the required tasks and have enough to save you, go with the os 91 surpass. it is a good engine. it ain't a real stump puller of an engine, but it is very reliable, stingy on fuel, and fires right up. it weighs the same as the 70 because it is the same case.

My 66" Vector Flight Extra balanced with the battery at the firewall, using a Super Tigre G90. Absolutely marvelous flyer!

Good luck,
Dave Olson

put that os 70 on a pacific aero model edge-540 -T sizs 40 -70 . 59" wing about 6# top quality arf or even pacific aero laser - 200 size 40 - 70 - 55" wing - 5# to 6# . i have them both . my laser is flying with os-46 FX . flys great & has plenty of power . can't go wrong with pacific aero models. good luck bill wrc-flyer

I have a Vector Flight Extra 58" and 66"

I put a Saito .91 on the 58" - Have not yet flown it...Still need to break in the Saito

I put an OS 1.20 in the 66" - Flies really good, like it is on rails. Goes whever you point it, floats a little on landigs.

Either of those two engines would work OK on Vector Flights 58" version of the Extra.;)

MR G,
You do any mods to the aiframe to support that OS 120? Seems like alot of engine for that plane. I have one still in the box and I'm gathering the necessary stuff to build, yet to decide on the engine, but a 120 could make things interesting. I was leaning toward Saito 91 or 100.

I'm planning to use a Saito 100 on my VF Edge 540 66".
