Back To Glow Power
 

Well I used to fly glow power back in the mid 70's, because that was all there was, but after 12 years I went to High Powered Rocketry. After 5 years of HPR.... I came back to RC only to fly electrics which I have been doing for a year now. Seeing how limited electrics are.... I'm going back to glow.
My question is this:
With electrics I flew small 70 mph pattern planes with brushless motors, wings and even a projeti with brushless set up. So I've been looking for my first new glow plane for the year and was wondering how people like the SIG Somethin' Extra. It seems to be able to be flown slow but yet will do plenty of acrobatics. I'm looking at the ARF and thought about buying the new OS .46 AX ABL motor. I've got a Hitec Spectra radio so I'm good to go there.

os 46- is very good engine . do your self a faver if you can go 4 stroke 70 or 72 . i have a bunch of 46 fx's & after going to 4 stroke . i won't go back . don't know about the sig something extra . sig is a good arf builder . so are most of the others too. the extra should be about for say a third plane . depending on skills. good luck wrc-flyer

Depends on what you like,Pattern ,or aerobatics and 3D? or all of the above....
If you are a decent pilot,buy something good looking and functional.if you are starting to buy from scratch,buy a 72 -100 OS/Saito 4 stroke and your aerobatic,but able to crawl,low stall speed choices will increase dramatically.

I've had a Sig Something Extra for 2 yrs. now. It has a Super Tigre .45 abc on the front. This is absolutely one of my favorite airplanes to fly. It isn't an all out aerobatic plane but sort of a hotrod aerobatic plane that's a whole lot of fun. If you want to practice aerobatic manuvers get another airplane. If you want a plane to slam around the sky doing non-precision aerobatic manuvers then this is the plane. And it will slow down to a crawl. As you can tell I like the SE.

:) I have owned three Somethin' Extras. One with an OS-70, one with OS-.46FX, and the last with an OS-50SX. I currently fly a kit built one with the OS-.46FX with an added Tower Muffler. I swing one of the new 14x4 wide APC's and I added TNT landing gear for the prop clearence. The plane is a hover queen at 1/3 throttle and the low and slow performance is so much fun that I dead stick land often from an empty fuel tank. One draw back to the TNT gear is that they are rigid and they will fatigue the bottom of the plane, even if you are greasing in your landings. I hope this helps!

Well from the sound of everything..... The SIG S.E. seems to be a great kit and one that handles either slow or kind of fast. I was looking for something that I could just fly around but yet open the throttle and have a bit of fun and this sounds like it. I'm not into the total 3D thing so as far as hovering goes.... well I flew heli's for 2 years before quitting and that was enough. The engine is another issue. Thought about just staying with the OS 46 but I've never owned 4 cycle so....
