Vector Edge Engine
I know this topic has been done a lot, I did the search and didn't find exactly what I was looking for.
I have decided that it is time for a new plane, and the Edge 540 from Vector Flight seems like the perfect plane. I plan on doing begining aerobatics with the possibility of moving up to advanced aerobatics with this plane. What engine will be a good contender? I am looking for the largest possible engine without having to add lead to the tail. I have not recieved the plane yet, but so far I have plans to reinforce the firewall, so that will add some weight to the front. What engines are you using? How does it work for you? |
RE: Vector Edge Engine
My VF Edge is still in the box, but I'm planning to use a Saito 100 on it.

RE: Vector Edge Engine
Its nice to have the extra power available. I am using a 91 FX, unlimited vertical straight off the ground! but most times its running only at half throttle or less. Saito 100 or YS 110 would be good choices from what I have read here. Good luck, you will love this bird!

RE: Vector Edge Engine
I would go with a Saito 100 or the YA 110 if you can fine one cheap.
You wont be dissapointed |
RE: Vector Edge Engine
I would go with a 91 two stroke

RE: Vector Edge Engine
i flew mine this weekend, have a os91fx in it.i would advise setting the controls on lowrates first flight,i was apperhensive on how little movement they have, highrates are very responsive at 3/4 throttle.i did a few modfications to mine and had to still add 1/2 ounce of lead to the tale.i have many photos of mine if i can figure how to get them posted

RE: Vector Edge Engine
You may want to remove the lead and with the nose heavy condition, adjust your radio to compensate.

RE: Vector Edge Engine
If you could get the pictures posted, that would be appreciated.
Thanks |
RE: Vector Edge Engine
I have a YS 110 in mine (as people who read these threads must be bored with me saying by now!!) and it's an awesome combination. I moved the batteries back, supported on a ply platform, and didn't have to add any extra weight to get the recommended balance position.
One word about flying. It is very very very pitch sensitive! Only the slightest elevator movement is required to get a small loop radius. Other than that, it flies exactly where you point it, and lands like a trainer! -David C. |
RE: Vector Edge Engine
I put a Magnum 1.20 4 stroke in my 540 Edge. Put a 6 volt 1400 mah battery pack at the rear of the belly pan opening, and needed no extra weight to the tail. Flys great!:D
