Help with Zagi Fixx motor upgrade

ORIGINAL: dieseldan

Slow dog at that till I changed it to the twin 180 motor GWS re wired the motors in series
7x6 GWS prop 3 1050 lith batteries in series flys great motor does not get hot lots cheaper than
astro power
I too have found the Zagi Fixx to be way underpowered for my tastes! It only flies well in zero wind with brand new motor and batteries. In a dive it shows some signs of potential life and I have been able to a double loop and roll it several times, but have to then ease it back up to altitude before attempting another maneuver. I now have about 30 flights on it. I took it out in a 5mph wind several times recently and I could not even get it more than 10-15 feet off the ground. Also now the prop needs a "push" just to get the motor to start up. I think the motor may be dying. Can lubrication bring this back to life? Help me wake up my Fixx!

HELP PLEASE!

I am considering an upgrade to a twin motor GWS power plant, but this is my first electric (perhaps my last) and I am illiterate when it comes to modifying the electric power system. I would like to spend the least so as not to pour too cash into a plane I can't fly. I was on the aeromicro.com web site, and I am not even sure what motor system to buy. Do I stick with the same gear ratio or change it?

I would like to use the battery packs that came with the plane since I have 5 of them (8 cell 9.6v 370mah nmh packs)
I have two extra 8x4.3 props as well that I would like to use.
I would also like to use the stock 5A speed control.

Can this work with a dual motor setup? How should it be wired?
Can I use two battery packs in parallel to increase my mah?

any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

RE: Help with Zagi Fixx motor upgrade

I finally killed my original fixx motor for good recently. I did not want to spend alot to continue flying this plane, and I had been somewhat disappointed in the performance. I ordered the S2 twin IPS motor and two heat sinks. (the heat sink really should be standard on the original motor)

I ordered this from Balsa Products http://www.balsapr.com/
7.2V Twin S2 Power System (IPSD-RXC-2S) Price: $21.88 Quantity: 1 Total: $21.88 GWS Heat Sink IPS-8A (EHS-50) Price: $1.45 Quantity: 2 Total: $2.90
Sub-Total: $24.78

I am using the original 9.6v 270mah battery, original 8x4.3 prop and the original speed controller so, not a huge investment. I had to break the motor mount stick out of the airframe and turn it on it's side. I epoxied this back into the airframe. I added 1/2 oz of lead to the nose and cut away the foam at the tail around the motors to give plenty of cooling. I test flew it in a 20mph wind this weekend and WOW! It flew awesome. I would not even fly the stock system in a 5mph wind previously. The added weight helps with penetration of the wind, and the flight characteristics were amazing. I did not notice much of a drop in duration, although I wasn't checking for this. I would recommend this as a cheap, easy upgrade for the fixx even if you haven't melted down the original single motor yet.

RE: THE ZAGI'S A DOG!

I just swapped out the stock motor with the system from an old GWS Slow Stick. I also used two Kokam 700mah. two sack packs wired in parallel and a Castle Creations Pixie ESC. I had to change out the motor mount stick, and I moved the batteries way forward for CG balance. Now my Fixx flies great.
