I had S-T GS 40 on mine with an 11x4 and it would really yank it off the runway... I didn't get it quite vertical, but it would climb very close to vertical for a loooong while...

I hover my avistar with a TT 46 pro, APC 11x5 and Tower muffer(gained 500rpm) The avistar is most definately the best 1st plane anyone could get. Easy to fly, and it doesn't get boring after your first solo landing. Heck, I moved the CG way back and do some pretty cool aerobatics with that sucker!

Oh yeah, I can knife edge with it to. Seriously

I know what you mean about the LA 40 Iam a club instructor and most trainerns come with this engine. But what you can do is put an Apc 10x5 prop on and it will almost feel like someone has put in another gear. The 46 is the best fix if it has bearings.
