Rascal 40 Mount Problem

Hi,

After 50 flights on my wife's Rascal 40 we found a problem with the hardwood motor mounts. Both mounts are now very loose and can be pulled from the side about a 64th of inch. Since the mounts are "Jigged" into the firewall I can't pull them out of the plane for a proper re-glueing of the mounts. We were using a Satio 56 for power. I'm trying to figure out the best way to repair the mounts. I've done the following so far in preparation. Cleaned out as much of the fuel residue as possible and sprayed the complete engine compartment with k2r.

Here are the options I can came up with.

- Apply slow CA along the mount and side of the plane and clamp the mount to the fuse side. Once dry, mix up 30 minute epoxy with micro-ballons and create a fillet between around the mount and the side and firewall.

- Cut the complete front end off and use a glass/nylon mount attached to the firewall. A lot of work to get the plane ready for the start of the season.

- Write the plane off and get another one.

I'd go with option 1, I think it'll hold just fine.

You could also try using some screws through the sidewalls into the mounts. In addition to Option #1 I don't think it would be going anywhere soon! :D

Thanks for the input. I already did the epoxy. Now to get my big fingers back in that little compartment to re-install the engine.
