VF Extra 300 66'
 

I have the 58' VF Extra and love it... I am running a .91 four stroke in it.. I just ordered the 66" one and am trying to decide what engine to put in it... I am looking for plenty of vertical but with as much engine as possible inside the cowling... Preferable a four stroke... So what are the rest of you using in this plane ?.... Any suggestions ....

Currently have a 91FX in my Vector Extra 66 in stock position ie sideways,with a Pitts muffler. Everything fits almost completely inside the cowl. Brute combination! You will love it.

The 91 sounds like a good choice... I have read so much bad about it on here though I would hesitate to purchase one...

I am still building mine, but it is getting a Saito 100. VF customer service said this would be a good combination. I think I also read somewhere that if you put more than a 100 in, you need to reinforce the firewall.

The Saito 100 looks good to me too.. Glad to hear VF likes it too... Probably be the way I go..

I have a Thunder Tiger .91FS in mine. Still building it.
With a MAS 14 x 6 K series, it pulled my H9 AT-6 with real power.
As clean an airframe as the Vector Flight Extra is, it should scream

I have a TT 91 in mine also and it hauls it around real nice. I have tried several different props and the best one seems to be the APC 14x6 or for a little more speed the 13x8.

Will the TT ,91 give you unlimited vertical or does it need a little more ?
The price sure is right on those... I have never tried a TT though

The vertical is not unlimited but it does climb very nicely. This engine does not make the plane a rocket but has great power. I get climbs of 300 feet or more straight up. I have never let it get to high because the plane gets hard to see. It would probably go as high as I wanted it to with out stalling.

How much thrust line compensation did you use?
The instructions say 1-2 down and 2-3 right...did you use that much?
I have a TT .91FS up front and used two washers top right and left, one on the bottom right.
Never did figure out how to get the "lycoming" decal to go on right

Hi Bumstead, I just started out with no thrust adjustments on all my 3 Vector airplanes, and eventually settled with about 2 degrees right thrust only, and no down thrust. All track absolutely straight in level or vertical climb and require very little trim change going inverted.
With the Lycoming decal, I just stuck the whole decal to clear scotch tape and applied it to the cowl. Then carefully peeled away the sides only leaving the text on the cowl. Has to be done dry without the windex. Good luck!

I put about 6; 8-10 minute flights on my VF 300S today. What a sweey flying plane!
Only one problem, the GD valve cover on my TT .91FS decided it wanted to try
sky-diving... never saw it fall off...never saw it again.
The TT is running great. I'm getting abou 10.5k RPM static with a MAS 14 x 6 K series.
Will try a 14 x 8 APC when I can find one for a little more speed. I think its
doning about 80-90 in level flight. Hard to judge
VF has been great BTW, their customer service is super.

Try the APC 14x6 prop it will pull harder than the MAS prop. I have tried both and the APC is better. I don't think that you will get the RPM that you need with the 14x8 prop. If you want more speed use the 13x8 prop it will turn more RPM and will make your extra haul. You can aslo use the MAS 14x7 scimitar prop they work good also. A lot or guys at my field are using the TT 91's for warbird racing and using the 13x8 prop on them. Some guys are gitting over 10,000 rpm on 20% fuel. I personaly would not run my engine that high. I am getting around 9600 on the APC 14x6 prop and the engine is really starting to come to life. I have about 1 1/2 gallons of fuel through it and just adjusted the valves for the first time. I flew it for 2 hours doing touch and go landings the other day. I make about 60 landings until I used all of the fuel that I had with me. I was the only one at the field. Man that was a lot of fun. This engine is awsome I am going to get me another one for a VF Edge 540.

Make sure to put some threadlocker on the screws from the rocker cover.
Mine went sky-diving somewhere.
