simply overpowered ucd 46
 

I am in need for a fresh model to replace my extra so I was thinking about the U Can Do 46 as a smaller easier to transport plane and probably more fun to fly. I want to use my new saito 100 that I had on the extra as it is a very nice engine. Well the question I have is the controversial issue between modelers who have used this setup and the instruction manual. I consider myself an above average flier who knows how to use the throttle accordingly. Without having a leadfinger and over speeding the ucd 46 is it possible or contolable with the engine of my choice?

yes, its POSSIBLE. The temptation to push the power up will definitely have to be resisted, as you can blow off the tailplanes. But 1/4 throttle hover may be possible with that engine.

The U-Can-Do .46 is a bit large for the engine recommendations... and that can fool you. It is also VERY lightly built. Its airframe is lighter than that of some .25 power trainers.

Might stick that engine on a U-Can-Do 60... THAT would be a great matchup.

I would probably substitute the for some stronger pinned hinges, clevises, horns, 4-40 carbon fiber control arms and some other little things I can't think of right now. Yes the ucd 60 would be a stronger choice for my engine but I want a plane that I can fit in my mustang without completely disassembling the whole plane.

Go for it. Brace the tail feathers and add a balsa block to the inside of the landing gear. If you run 20% fuel use an APC 15 x 4W prop and 30% use a 16 x 4W. Unless the nose is pointed up resist the urge to push the throttle all the way and hold it and don't expect GP to warranty it. Great combination.

Too bad there 1sn't a .60 size Somethin' Extra. I think I know what you want... 30 sec assembly when you get to the field. Plug-plug go.:D

(or no assembly at all... but fitting that in a Mustang????? Try a .20 size plane[&:])

Unfotunately... best combo for the engine is going to have some size to it. Which is why I have a minivan and a custom 12 ft trailer. :D

Sounds great, bentgear, what type of true turn spinner slots will fit the APC 15 X 4W prop.(120 or the wide ones)

Actually my old hobbico .60 extra 300s (discontinued) fit in my mustang if I lowered the rear seats and unbolted the gear and wing. I would't mind spending some more time on preflight than 30 sec but putting a whole plane back together is just something I don't favor. I like building at home and flying at the field.;)

I was just using a Dubro spinner nut on the end of mine. I have a spinner on my YS 91 that has a 16 x 4W mounted but I don't remember what type/brand it is. I will try and look it up tonight for you.
