RARE BEAR AT LAST

1 Attachment(s)
I picked this up in Europe last week. I am in the process of assembly Wow! Can't wait for the first flight! Planning on a TT Pro 120 2-stroke for power, fits in the cowl with room to spare! A bit more construction than the average ARF, but this sure isn't your average looking machine! Will post more later, gotta go build!

Rare Bear flew last Saturday and Sunday! All up weight 11.2 lbs. Used TT .60 size retracts, with 440 linkage rods. Fuel tank location had to be changed as it was aft of the center of gravity. Fast fast fast with the Pro 120! Ground handling is great, takes off with very little rudder correction. Flies knife edge almost level! Pulled enough "G"s in left pylon turns to strip the HS75 retract servo! Landed on the tailwheel and muffler exhaust pipes for no damage!

The model required about 40 hours to assemble, but was worth all the effort when it flew!

looking forward to read your review, I was thinking on a 90 2-s but based on your feedback a YS 120, that is also in the shell, may take over.

I think its Thunder Tiger that is making it.

Hey nice plane,
Do you have anymore pics?

Well at $330 a pop, this is way to much for this size ARF. I am curious if Shelf Paper is still used for covering and Hotglue on the main structural points. I mean without these high standards, it would not be a true Thunder Tiger from Ace products. (But it does look good)

Not only $330 a pop but there are no retracts ... is that correct? I think the Little Toni is a better buy at about $240

8-9 pounds according to specs. A bit on the heavy side, even for a ARF, wouldn't you say?

If it were 7.5lbs that would be great, then it should fly just nice and dandy with a 60 sized 2C.

Randy, I'm really interested in how you like this as an ARF. The price does seem a little steep for this size, but if you've gotta have a Bearcat, there's probably none better than Rare Bear!

Nice Plane but $330 for this size plane with no retracts is ridiculous. $250 would be back to earth here.[sm=thumbdown.gif]

I've been keeping an eye on this plane from the announcement of it and I'm pretty sure it's not a scale Rare Bear outline...meaning it's more toward the real bearcat in dimensions rather than the clipped wing "RARE BEAR". I've also seen this craft go from 389 to 329 on the tower web site in the last 3 months. Still have till mid june for north american release to come down in price...Hopefully....very interested in this plane

I saw that thing last October at the Vegas Trade sow (that's where those pics are from) Incredibly great looking plane.... The TT guy said it would come w/o retracts.... They also said the delay in releasing it (I think they were ready a long time ago) came from getting the licensing agreed upon between TT and the real Rare bear. I've got a YS 91 that is just dying ofr a home....can't decide on this or a Funtana 90 (kinda like choosing an apple over an orange)!!! Can't wait to see finally come stateside!!

Don't mean to be negative, but did someone actually get this plane, and if so, where are some pics of the build?
