Big Stick 60 Mod
 

Hi all. I was wondering if anyone out there with a Big Stick 60 has ever programed there radio for flaperons. If so could you please tell me how the plane responded. I was told I should do this but wanted to find out first if anyone ever has and how it worked out. Thanks guys and keep on flying.

I have owned just about every Stick plane except the BS60 and have flown flaperons on all of them. I presently use a BS40 for a small engine (.40-.46) engine break-in and a Joss Stick for larger size engines. Both fly very well with flaperons.

A flaperon wing type gives you several things, in addition to what you normally think of.

1. You can adjust each aileron individually for center (sub trim) and end point (travel adjust). This is handy when you use large throws to keep from rolling when flaperons or spoilers are deployed.

2. Variable flaps on a knob. You can droop both ailerons with your channel 6 knob as flaps for landing practice. if you put a lot of flap down, be careful on take off of a touch-and-go because the throttle blast will make the flaps very effective and the plane will try to pitch up.

3. Set landing flaps using the landing switch. Once you have flaperons set, you can go to your landing program on most computer radios and key in a set amount for landing. Find the amount you like best using the variable channel 6 knob, then program the same amount to the landing switch.

4. Stunt flaperons with elevator-flap mix. Most radios come with an elevator-flap mix so you can program down flap with up elevator and vice versa. This will give you tight loops and turns and can also be used for landings.

5. Spoilerons with elevator-flap mix. For tight flips with a fun fly plane, set your elevator-flap mix, but put in up flap with up elevator and down-down. This is useful for doing forward flips or waterfall type maneuvers. It also helps in elevators, a power-controlled, full up elevator descent.

6. Spoilers mixed to throttle. You can mix spoilers, up flaps, for landings. This allows a steeper descent which is great for windy days. If you mix it to throttle, the spoilers will drop down when you throttle up for the touch-and-go. On a windy day, my Big Stick 40 will make a near vertical descent using spoilers like this. If you get in trouble, you add power and the ailerons go back to normal.

You have lots of possibilities for some long time fun with your Big Stick and flaperons.
