GP Gee Bee R2 Belly Pan
 

I'm at the point on my Gee Bee where you have to trim the Belly Pan to the "Cut Line". Trouble is, I'm not sure where that is and it's not very well defined. Do you just trim the material underneath to allow the pan to fit the wing, or do you cut along the crease line that is about 1/4 inch in form each edge of the pan?

I'd appreciate input from anyone out there that's done this so I don't mess it up!

I trimmed mine to fit the wing. I trimmed it something close the airfoil of the wing, and kept tuning the fit until I liked it. MIne acutally fits really well. I have heard complaints from some guys about how poor it fits.

My Gee Bee is nearly complete and I haven't been very impressed with this kit. My belly pan didn't fit at all, and required a lot of work to fit. I don't know how everyone has been doing their gas tank, but there's no room to foam it inside of the former. Another problem I found with the tank is that the neck would not go through the firewall due to the bolts from the motor mount. I have various other complaints, but oh well, it's a lot cheaper and a lot less work than building a kit. Despite the various setbacks I'm very satisfied with it.

I changed the tank to a sullivan 16 ounce. I enlarged the area for the tank in the former, added a few braces to stiffen what i ground out, then added a small floor for the tank to sit on. I needed to lower my tank as much as possible since I am running a OS 160 twin 4 stroke. The carburetor is on the bottom so I need the tank lower. The thing I really didn't like is how loose the fit of the stab is in the stab cut out. It allows for a huge amount of variation in incidence. I set mine in the middle, and now find out that I am a degree off from what is called for. They didn't publish the incidences when I built mine. I found out now the wing should be +2, the stab -2 and the motor -4. I personally think that these number are quite wrong for this plane. It is real pain in the ***** to land!
